Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Freddy Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tajhon Blahs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Trik Turner - Friends and Family. Freddy Alves has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Freddy Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tajhon Blahs!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A chopping leg kick lands by Blahs.
Blahs with a nice cross.
Alves doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Blahs counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Alves defending well as Blahs loads up on a big left hand.
Blahs lands with a hook. Alves tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Blahs scores with a jab.
Blahs is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Alves.
Good leg kick by Blahs there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Alves misses with a wild combination.
Blahs connects with a looping right hand.
Blahs scores with a sloppy right hand. Alves should have avoided that one.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Blahs connects with a solid leg kick.

Blahs knocks Alves to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?


Alves is rocked!
Alves looks to move to half guard but instead Blahs has passed into mount! Damn!
Oh Alves is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Alves is breathing heavily.
Blahs controlling his opponent.

Alves takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Alves seems to have got his legs back now.
Alves on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Alves tries to get out of the position.
Alves tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Alves wants to hold on but Blahs pushes him away.
Blahs looking to control and managing it successfully.

Alves bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Alves has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Freddy Alves just wasn't active enough.
Alves scores with the left hand. Blahs knows he should have avoided that one.

Blahs slips a jab and a cross from Alves.
Blahs throws a low kick, looking for Alves's leg but Alves calmly moves out of range.
Blahs fails to land the takedown.
Blahs swings for the body but Alves moves out of range.

Blahs shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alves is looking to improve his position.
Blahs is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Alves has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Blahs is working away from the top position though.
Blahs seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Still in half guard, Blahs seems content to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tajhon Blahs wasn't active enough on the ground.
Blahs moves in looking to clinch but Alves pushes him off.
Blahs feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Alvess jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Blahs stuffs the takedown attempt from Alves. Alves gets slowly back to his feet.
Alves rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Blahs moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Alves looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Freddy Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Alves misses with a double jab

and Blahs counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Blahs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Blahs stays in close to Alves's body and controls the position.
Let's hope that Blahs has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tajhon Blahs dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Alves walks into a straight right hand from Blahs.
Alves throws out a loose jab but Blahs uses good head movement to avoid it.
Blahs blocks a jab.
Blahs misses with an uppercut. Alves saw that one coming.
Blahs fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Alves gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Blahs stopping the sweep attempt from Alves.
Blahs pushes down on Alves's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Blahs scoring with strikes to the body and head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Blahs performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Tajhon Blahs.
Alves avoids the body shot from Blahs.
Blahs throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Blahs tests Alves's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Alves needs to keep his hands up - Blahs had a free shot at his head there.
Blahs has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Blahs throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Alves takes a kick to the side of the head.
Alves tries to clinch but Blahs moves out of range.
Alves staying out of range there.

Blahs closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Alves quickly recovers to half guard.

Alves is looking to control Blahs's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Alves avoid being mounted?
Blahs is figuring out what he wants to do next.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tajhon Blahs wasn't active enough on the ground.
Blahs scores with a kick to the body.
Blahs lands a right hook to the body.
Blahs lands a nice looking body shot.
Blahs scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Blahs lands with a cross.
Blahs bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Alves's head.
Tajhon Blahs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Blahs thuds his right hand into Alves's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Freddy Alves is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Blahs drops Alves with a straight right hand, right on the button! Blahs follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!
