11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Foster! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Lorenzo Montana! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Foster gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Montana. Lorenzo Montana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Foster swings away with a leg kick that misses. Montana lands with a kick to the temple. Foster shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
It looks like James Foster has been cut. Montana misses with a hook
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Foster throws a head kick that misses. Montana throws a combination. Foster tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Montana throws the kick towards the body but Foster avoids it. Montana misses with a straight left. Foster throws a leg kick and Montana counters with a lovely straight right hand! Foster misses with a few strikes there.
Montana lands a nice leg kick that just misses Foster's sensitive parts. Montana scores with a nice right hand.
Foster takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Foster circles away from the clinch attempt.
Foster fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Montana checks it well. Montana throws a body kick the misses and Foster makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Montana lands a jab. Foster throws a series of punches but Montana avoids them all with ease. Foster tries to bum rush Montana with a series of wild strikes but Montana uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
That's one minute gone in the round. Foster throws a leg kick and Montana counters with a slapping leg kick. Foster misses with a lunging right hand
and Montana connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Foster scores with a sloppy right hand. Montana should have avoided that one. Foster steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Montana. Foster throws a leg kick and Montana counters with a nice low kick that buckles Foster's knee momentarily. Montana tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Foster on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. A leg kick checked by Montana. Montana with a hook. Montana thumps Foster with a low kick. Montana keeps Foster at a distance using the push kick. Montana lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Foster at a distance.
Foster blocks a leg kick. Montana scores with a sloppy right hand. Foster should have avoided that one. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Foster falls off balance throwing a combination
and Montana counters with a nice body kick. Foster is breathing heavily. A head kick by Foster misses and Montana counters with a series of strikes. Foster will be more careful next time no doubt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Foster fails to land with a series of punches.
Montana plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Foster tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Montana throws a nice inside leg kick. Foster drops his hands momentarily and Montana takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Foster on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Foster tried to score with a low kick but Montana checks it. Foster misses with a leg kick and Montana makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Foster really felt that one! Montana displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Montana gets a clinch. Montana struggles to land a body shot inside as Foster controls his hands.
Foster looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Montana lands a hook to the side of the head. Montana lands with a left to the head. Montana lands an uppercut. Nice elbow from Montana.
James Foster's cut is getting worse. A right handed body shot lands from Montana.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Montana lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Foster is rocked! Montana lands a body shot. Montana lands a right hand that snaps the head of Foster backwards. Montana scores with an uppercut up the middle. Montana pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Montana blocks a jab. Montana throws a right hand that misses
and Foster counters with a low kick, right behind Montana 's knee. Foster misses with an uppercut
and Montana counters with a two punch combo. A low kick from Foster is predictable there enabling Montana to counter with a crisp jab. Oh Foster is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Montana drops Foster with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Foster! Montana dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lorenzo Montana! Lorenzo Montana retains his welterweight title!
