Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oliver Cornell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Miller! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Alyssa Summers and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miller throws a right and a left that both miss. Miller works over Cornell's head and body with a nice combination. Miller misses with a double jab.
Cornell keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Miller tries to close the distance and clinch but Cornell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Miller throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cornell. A cross from Miller lands. Miller wants to clinch up but Cornell keeps it at a distance. Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cornell swats him away and circles back towards the center. Miller is looking to clinch but Cornell is avoiding it.
A clash of legs there as Miller blocks the low kick. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cornell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Miller fails in his attempt to clinch. Miller tries to clinch but Cornell is having none of it. Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cornell paws at him with a jab and circles away. Miller tries a head kick but it misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miller throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Miller tries to clinch up. Danga de danga de dang - Miller scores with a four punch combination! Cornell shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Cornell looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Miller with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Cornell is thwarting Miller's attempts to control the position. Cornell scores with a couple of good hammerfists. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Miller can do anything to dispel that myth. Miller is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Cornell scores with a couple of nice shots. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cornell connects with a nice short shot to Miller's temple. Ground and pound from Cornell.
Miller is rocked! Cornell lands with a punch from half guard. Miller is still in real trouble! Can Cornell finish him? We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cornell creates some space for himself and unloads with a monster right hand! That one landed with a sickening thud - Miller is out cold and this one is all over! Cornell climbs onto the cage to celebrate with his corner!! He's shouting something into the camera but he's still got his mouthpiece in so God knows what he's actually saying.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Oliver Cornell!
