PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pure White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Leno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leno has chosen My Monologue as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and White counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Leno throws a shot from downtown. White moves away and avoids it.
White connects with a looping right hand.

letting White counter with a right hand.
White takes a swing at Leno's ribcage but misses.

White tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Leno was well out of range. Poor timing from White.
Leno throws a lazy uppercut
and White counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Jay Leno seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Leno throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Leno shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. White manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
White controls Leno momentarily but Leno frees himself.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Leno is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

We're going to have a standup here because Pure White wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

and White counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Leno thinking.
Leno comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
White is looking to wear down Leno with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
White slaps away a takedown attempt from Leno, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Pure White has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Leno.

and Leno counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

White on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if White tries to get out of the position.
Leno is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Leno throws some wild stikes that White manages to avoid easily.
Leno cracks White with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
White tries to hold on but Leno postures up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jay Leno showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!

and Leno connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Leno tries to move into range but White moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
White is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
White looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

and White counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
White's corner calls for a 1-2. White obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

and Leno counters with a left and a right that stings White.
White misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Leno.
White fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Leno looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

and White counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
White is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
White displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Leno.

and Leno counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

White tries to bum rush Leno with a series of wild strikes but Leno uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
White takes a swing at Leno's ribcage but misses.
White throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Leno stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
White gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Leno fakes high and swings low for a body shot but White manages to avoid it.
Leno takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Leno takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

and White counters with a three punch combo that has Leno backing up. Leno nods at White to acknowledge the strikes.
White fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Leno manages to avoid it.
White thuds a left hand into Leno's body.
Leno scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
White uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Leno.

Leno shoots in and bounces White off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Leno is looking to work some ground and pound but White has wrist control.
Jay Leno has got the better of the ground game so far.

White wants to sweep here but Leno controlling him for the moment.
Pure White has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

White lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Leno!

White postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Leno looks a forlorn figure.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Pure White.
I think Leno has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
