Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Hollywood! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ranma Saotome! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hollywood looks to land a combination but Saotome avoids it well. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Saotome. Hollywood lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hollywood, as that shot connected.
Saotome is rocked! Hollywood cracks Saotome with a big right hand and Saotome goes down! Saotome is still in real trouble! Can Hollywood finish him? Hollywood gets to his feet. Saotome looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Saotome needs to keep his hands up - Hollywood had a free shot at his head there. Saotome shoots in for a double leg but Hollywood sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Saotome displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hollywood throws out the jab. Hollywood throws a shot from downtown. Saotome moves away and avoids it. Saotome changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hollywood looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Saotome seems to have recovered his senses. Hollywood prevents Saotome from improving position. Hollywood is not content to let Saotome control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Saotome is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hollywood has escaped the position, nice work there. Saotome working away. Hollywood is trying to improve his position. Saotome in the domination position with Hollywood hanging on. Saotome tries to advance to mount but Hollywood denies him. Saotome is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hollywood is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Hollywood knocks Saotome to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hollywood stands up. Decent striking displayed by Hollywood there. Hollywood connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Saotome! He's out on his feet! Hollywood rushes in and drops Saotome with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). David Hollywood! David Hollywood retains his light heavyweight title!
