Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sonny Emerson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Draybil Guetzlaff! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Guetzlaff misses with a takedown and Emerson counters with a straight right hand. Guetzlaff has his takedown stuffed enabling Emerson to counter with a crisp jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Guetzlaff wants to clinch and Emerson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emerson moves into the clinch. Guetzlaff looking to slow down the pace here. Emerson with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Guetzlaff tries for a takedown. No joy.
Sonny Emerson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Draybil Guetzlaff. Emerson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Guetzlaff looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Emerson wants to stand but Guetzlaff is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Guetzlaff is trying to keep Emerson in close.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Emerson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Guetzlaff napping and manages to drive through into side control!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Guetzlaff wants to control but Emerson postures up. Emerson tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Guetzlaff gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Guetzlaff flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Guetzlaff slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Guetzlaff punching from the bottom - just letting Emerson know he's still in a fight. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Guetzlaff has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Emerson doesn't defend quickly enough and Guetzlaff has managed to lock this one up! Can Emerson escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Guetzlaff on a fantastic submission victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Draybil Guetzlaff!
