Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Trip Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deon Du Plessis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Du Plessis has chosen Fort Minor - Remember the name as his entrance music. Deon Du Plessis has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Trip Hammer's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Trip Hammer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Deon Du Plessis! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Du Plessis instigates a clinch. Hammer takes an elbow to the temple. Du Plessis with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
It looks like Trip Hammer has been cut. Du Plessis decides to pull guard. Hammer trying to control but Du Plessis is working from the bottom. Hammer postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Du Plessis is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hammer, into his guard. Du Plessis wants to get up but he can't break Hammer's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Hammer working a defensive guard here.
Du Plessis's corner is telling him to maintain position. Du Plessis would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Hammer wants to sweep here but Du Plessis controlling him for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hammer has a closed guard, preventing Du Plessis from standing up. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Du Plessis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Hammer gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Hammer really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill... Du Plessis trying to control but Hammer is working from the bottom. Du Plessis tries to free his leg and advance position but Hammer is retaining full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Du Plessis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hammer is proving hard to escape from. Du Plessis wants to control from the top but Hammer keeps moving. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Du Plessis postures up.
Du Plessis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Deon Du Plessis. Du Plessis clinches up with Hammer and pushes him back against the cage. Du Plessis throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Hammer blocks it with crossed arms. A nice right hand lands inside from Hammer. Du Plessis manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Du Plessis looks gassed! Hammer thows a big elbow that misses. Hammer with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Hammer working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Du Plessis's head. Hammer scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Du Plessis keeping moving, preventing Hammer from controlling successfully. Hammer slips nicely into half guard. Hammer is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Hammer is stalling here. Du Plessis is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Hammer seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Du Plessis has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Hammer gets back to half guard.

Hammer is not content to let Du Plessis control the position. Du Plessis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hammer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Du Plessis decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Deon Du Plessis dominated that round. The cut man is working on Trip Hammer's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Hammer drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hammer jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hammer postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Du Plessis is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Du Plessis would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Deon Du Plessis wasn't active enough on the ground. Hammer chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Du Plessis can pounce on him.
Du Plessis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hammer swats him away and circles back towards the center. Hammer misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Hammer throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Du Plessis's waist but Du Plessis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hammer off to one side. Hammer has his takedown stuffed and Du Plessis counters by moving into the clinch. Hammer goes for a takedown in the clinch but Du Plessis prevents it.
Du Plessis lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Hammer takes an elbow to the temple. Du Plessis works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Du Plessis trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hammer's guard.

Du Plessis trying to control the position from guard on top but Hammer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Du Plessis is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Hammer has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Du Plessis is looking to defend but Hammer has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Du Plessis! Hammer pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Du Plessis taps out and this one is all over!
