Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jimmy Spitwater! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Jones! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, John Mangel and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Spitwater instigates a clinch. Spitwater prevents Jones from breaking the clinch. Spitwater wants the takedown. Jones is fighting it off but Spitwater persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Jones's guard against the cage. Jones is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jones preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Jones is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Jones is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Spitwater is working to get back to half guard.
Spitwater is squirming around, avoiding Jones's attempts to control the action. Spitwater takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Jones is trying to control here but Spitwater has managed to regain half guard.

Jones drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Spitwater manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jones has Spitwater in his guard. Spitwater won't allow Jones to sweep him here. Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones wants to improve his position but instead Spitwater has moved into half guard.
Jones is in trouble now - Spitwater has advanced to mount! Spitwater moves to take his opponent's back. Jones trying to control the hands but Spitwater won't let him.

Jones drops back looking for a leg! Spitwater is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Spitwater manages to kick Jones off! Jones jumps back into Spitwater's guard. Dan Jones dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Spitwater has taken the fight to the clinch.
Jones is trying to break free. Spitwater turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Spitwater decides to take the fight back to the feet. Spitwater closes the distance and clinches. Jones is trying to break the clinch but Spitwater has him pressed against the cage. Spitwater pulls guard. Spitwater tries to land a sweep but no joy. Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Jones throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Spitwater works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Jones won't allow Spitwater to sweep him here. Spitwater looking for a guillotine here but Jones defends easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jones is striking from the bottom but Spitwater uses the opportunity to pass into half guard. Spitwater wants to pass the guard but Jones is defending well. Jones gets back to full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Decent striking displayed by Spitwater there. Good standup being displayed there by Jones as he connects with a hook. Spitwater doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.

Dan Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jones sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Spitwater closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Jones tries to roll over but Spitwater keeps him under control. Spitwater is trying to work for a kimura but Jones is defending well.
