Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charles Bishop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Bishop checks a leg kick. Bishop throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Bishop throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Bishop misses the shot to the body. Bishop connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Gonzalez fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Bishop checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Gonzalez tries for a takedown but Bishop circles away easily and Bishop counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bishop loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Gonzalez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bishop can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Bishop stays in close to Gonzalez's body and controls the position.

Bishop has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Bishop defends it easily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bishop seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Gonzalez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Gonzalez looking for subs off his back but Bishop has passed one foot through into half guard.

A left lands for Bishop. Bishop shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Bishop ducks under a wild hook from Gonzalez. Bishop keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Gonzalez misses with a hook
and Bishop counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Bishop looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gonzalez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Gonzalez is refusing to be controlled, as Bishop sits in half guard. Bishop is figuring out what he wants to do next. Gonzalez is defending against the submission attempts here by Bishop.

Gonzalez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Bishop. Gonzalez tries to get to full guard but Bishop has control of the leg. Bishop perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Gonzalez blocking the ground and pound attempt from Bishop.

Bishop landing strikes from the mount and Gonzalez is in trouble! Charles Bishop overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Gonzalez is breathing heavily. Bishop is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Gonzalez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
