PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Utah Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Scylla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Utah Jones has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Utah Jones seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Utah Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Scylla!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Bruno Hogan and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones takes one on the button.
Jones is looking to chop away at Scylla's legs.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jones.
Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A punch combination from Scylla misses.
Jones ducks under a wild hook from Scylla.
Jones tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Scylla looks to throw the jab but Jones is out of range.

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown. Scylla fights it but they end up in guard.

Scylla has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jones can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Scylla is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Scylla wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.

Scylla is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Scylla wants to work for an arm triangle but Jones is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Scylla moves into full mount! Jones won't be happy about that!
Jones is trying to escape the mount but Scylla keeps good control and instead manages to take Jones's back.

Scylla seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Jones's chin but Jones turns very nicely into Scylla's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Jones.

Scylla working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Jones moves into the clinch.
Jones tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Scylla passes Jones's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Scylla looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Scylla tries to pass the half guard into mount. Jones knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Jones wants to control but Scylla is keeping busy.
Scylla is trying to control. Jones wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Scylla is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Scylla is looking to pass Jones's guard but actually Jones recovers to full guard.

Scylla is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jones is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jones has escaped and now he's on top!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Scylla is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Scylla controls Jones momentarily but Jones frees himself.

Jones drops back looking for a leg! Scylla is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Scylla manages to kick Jones off! Jones jumps back into Scylla's guard.

Jones decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Scylla, up you get!

Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Scylla but Scylla pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Scylla pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Jones back to the cage. Scylla follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Scylla fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jones looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

A lazy left from Scylla finds it's target.
Scylla scores with a jab to the head.
Utah Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No joy there for Scylla, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Scylla throws a one two combo.


Jones is rocked!
Scylla tests Jones's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Oh Jones is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jones thuds his right hand into Scylla's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Scylla throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Scylla throws a left and a right that both miss
and Jones counters with a leg kick.
Jones seems to have got his legs back now.
Scylla tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Scylla connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Jones forces Scylla back against the cage and clinches.
Jones pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Scylla has Jones pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jones manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Jones lands a nice elbow.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
No luck for Jones with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Utah Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mark Scylla showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Mark Scylla seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scylla lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Jones needs to keep his hands up - Scylla had a free shot at his head there.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Scylla looks to land a combination. Jones sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Scylla stuns Jones with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Jones tries to clinch up but Scylla circles away and keeps his distance.
A looping hook to the body misses from Scylla. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet.
Scylla scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Jones doesn't seem bothered though.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Scylla moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Jones moves away from the strike by Scylla.
Utah Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Scylla swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Jones.
Jones will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Scylla is trying to drag Jones to the mat but Jones just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Jones throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Jones throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Scylla blocks it with crossed arms.
Jones goes for a takedown attempt but Scylla pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Jones uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Scylla.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jones.
Scylla looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well.

Jones looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Jones looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Scylla pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Jones back to the cage. Scylla follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Scylla feints a jab promting Jones to slip. Scylla then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Jones slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Mark Scylla is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Jones looks to clinch
and Scylla counters with a left to the body.

and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

I've got Scylla winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
