PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aleksandr Nikitin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Toni Turnschuh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nikitin kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Kick In The Teeth. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandr Nikitin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Toni Turnschuh!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turnschuh moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Nikitin looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Nikitin just misses with a punch to the body.

Nikitin closes the distance and clinches.
Turnschuh has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Nikitin jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Turnschuh walks away with a smile on his face. Nikitin gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Turnschuh tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Nikitin counters with a stiff right hand.


It looks like Toni Turnschuh has been cut.
Turnschuh doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Nikitin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Nikitin has hold of one of Turnschuh's legs. Turnschuh is fighting the takedown attempt but Nikitin gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Nikitin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Turnschuh swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nikitin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Turnschuh wants to improve his position but instead Nikitin has moved into half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

We're going to have a standup here because Aleksandr Nikitin wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Nikitin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Turnschuh smiles and moves away.

and Nikitin counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Turnschuh is trying to control but Nikitin manages to pass to mount!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Turnschuh wants to get back to full guard.

and Nikitin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Turnschuh's guard.
Turnschuh can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nikitin controls the pace.

Turnschuh looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Nikitin has picked Turnschuh up and slammed him! Turnschuh can't keep hold of the triangle and Nikitin manages to pass to side control!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nikitin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Turnschuh scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Aleksandr Nikitin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Nikitin.
Turnschuh shoots and misses
and Nikitin connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Nikitin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Turnschuh sprawls well. Turnschuh wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nikitin gets slowly back to his feet.
Turnschuh slaps away a takedown attempt from Nikitin, before circling back to the center of the mat.

and Nikitin counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Turnschuh is trying to push Nikitin away but Nikitin has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Turnschuh throws a left and a right that both miss
and Nikitin connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

and Nikitin counters with a shoot takedown. Turnschuh fights it but they end up in guard.

Nikitin's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
