The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Niwa blocks a head kick by Navarro.
Niwa has managed to clinch.
Navarro breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Navarro swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Niwa moves into the clinch.

Navarro throws a knee to the head but misses.

Niwa changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Navarro fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Niwa closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Niwa lands in his opponent's guard.
Niwa is looking to advance position but Navarro has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Niwa is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Niwa gets back to half guard.
Niwa tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Niwa moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Navarro tries to stand but Niwa is controlling from the bottom.
Niwa trying to keep a closed guard but Navarro is proving a slippery customer.
Navarro is sitting in close to Niwa's body. Niwa has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Navarro is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Navarro is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Niwa.
