PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sergei Kravelski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paolo Roberto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sergei Kravelski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Paolo Roberto!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Wagner Zegers and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kravelski closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Roberto drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kravelski pulls his leg out and moves away.

Roberto moves into the clinch successfully.

Kravelski pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kravelski shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
No joy there for Roberto, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Kravelski closes the distance but Roberto moves to the side
and Roberto makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Kravelski really felt that one!
Kravelski fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Roberto closes the distance and clinches.
Kravelski is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Roberto pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sergei Kravelski. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Roberto tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kravelski smiles and moves away.
Kravelski shoots in but no luck this time.

Roberto looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Roberto circles away from the clinch attempt
and Roberto counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Kravelski is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Roberto is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kravelski is aware though and is defending well.
Kravelski passes Roberto's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kravelski in particular looking to stall.

Roberto really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kravelski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kravelski uses his free foot to push down on Roberto's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Roberto.
Kravelski lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Roberto is looking to improve his position but Kravelski isn't that keen on the idea.
Kravelski throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Roberto because Kravelski loaded up on that one.

A close round but Paolo Roberto will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Kravelski has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kravelski wants to control but Roberto is keeping him busy.
Roberto seems a little lost for a moment, as Kravelski dominates the positioning.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roberto can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kravelski unloads with some shots from mount but Roberto bucks and avoids them well.

Kravelski has the hooks in. Roberto is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Kravelski is not going to allow Roberto to sit and survive in this position.

That's time! Kravelski's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Nice takedown defense from Roberto. No joy for Kravelski on that attempt.

Kravelski is looking for the choke from the back position but Roberto is controlling his hands well.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kravelski has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Roberto has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Roberto is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Kravelski.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kravelski looking to break Roberto's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Roberto remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Kravelski will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

I really don't envy Roberto right now.
