Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jostein Ophus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Rolla! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rolla fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ophus sprawls well initially but Rolla persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Ophus on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Rolla with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Ophus wants to get back to his feet.
Rolla is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rolla in particular looking to stall. Rolla moves into full mount! Ophus won't be happy about that! The referee warns Ophus that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ophus is trying to escape the mount.
Ophus wants to control but Rolla is having none of it. Rolla controlling the position easily from mount. Rolla prevents Ophus from getting the reversal.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Ophus is working hard here to advance position. Rolla wants to control the pace but Ophus is squirming around nicely. Rolla tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Ophus tries to get back to half guard but can't. Ophus is trying to reverse the position but instead Rolla has taken his back - oops! Ophus just trying to survive but Rolla is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Ophus could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rolla is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Ophus taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Rolla.
