PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between San Cou (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Cheung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, San Cou!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Eddie Cheung!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cheung has Cou up against the cage in a clinch.

Cou pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cheung is looking to clinch but Cou is avoiding it.
Cheung should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Cou tries to clinch but Cheung moves out of range.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Cou prevents a takedown attempt there.
Cou wants to get back to striking at distance but Cheung won't allow it.
Cheung lands with a right to the head.

Cheung breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cou rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cheung moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Cou tries to bum rush Cheung with a series of wild strikes but Cheung uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Cheung shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cou as he jumps to the side.
Cheung shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cou sprawls well. Cou wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cheung gets slowly back to his feet.
San Cou has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddie Cheung.
Cou slips a jab and a cross from Cheung.

Cheung decides to stand up, so the ref orders Cou to his feet.

Cheung closes the distance and clinches.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Cheung has eaten all the pies!
Cou has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cheung avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Cheung tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cou just stands there and leans against the cage.
A right handed body shot lands from Cheung.

Cou has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Cheung pulls guard effortlessly.
Cou will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Cheung striking off his back but it's not causing Cou any problems.

Cheung is looking for a triangle but Cou pushes his legs off easily.
Cheung looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Cou puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Cheung is trying to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cou wants to stand up but Cheung is controlling the position.
Cou is breathing heavily.
Cheung controlling the position well.

Cheung is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cheung is doing well to control the position and prevent Cou from advancing to side control.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Eddie Cheung.

Cheung has Cou up against the cage in a clinch.
A short uppercut from Cheung.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Cheung.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cou tries to score a body lock takedown but Cheung shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Cheung breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Cheung closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cheung lands in his opponent's guard.
Cheung tries to free his leg and advance position but Cou is retaining full guard.

Cheung stands up from guard. Let's bang!
A combination from Cheung does no damage.

Cheung changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cou looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Cheung decides to stand back up. Cheung steps back and let's Cou get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cheung closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cheung lands in his opponent's guard.

Cheung thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddie Cheung dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Cheung takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Cou lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
San Cou seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cheung fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cheung throws a series of punches but Cou moves out of range.
Cheung fails with a takedown attempt.
Cheung is looking to clinch.
Cheung tries to bum rush Cou with a series of wild strikes but Cou uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cheung takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Cou's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Cheung misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Cou has had enough of the clinch but Cheung keeps him there for the moment.

Cheung breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cou looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Cheung lands a left hand that snaps the head of Cou backwards.

Cheung throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A decent looking cross lands there for Cou.
Cou looks to land a right hand but Cheung moved out of range.

Cheung passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Cou!
Cheung lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Cou hang on?
Cheung lands a big shot there that rocks Cou but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Cheung is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Cou is surviving well by controlling Cheung's body position as best he can.

Cheung cracks Cou with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Eddie Cheung showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Cou misses with an uppercut

and Cheung counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Cheung.
Cheung forces his way into half guard.
Cheung scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Cheung prevents Cou from standing back up.
Cheung takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Cheung not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cou is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Cheung scores with a couple of nice shots.

Cou has hold of Cheung's hands but Cheung slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Cheung moves into full mount! Cou won't be happy about that!

Eddie Cheung has got the better of the ground game so far.

Cheung has hold of Cou's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Cou manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Cheung is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Cou to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Cou shrugs it off.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cheung postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Cou looks a forlorn figure.
Cou is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

I've got Cheung winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
