The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Germaine throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Germaine lands a nice leg kick that just misses McDonald's sensitive parts.
Germaine tries a head kick but it misses.
McDonald fails with a takedown attempt.
McDonald shoots in but Germaine avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McDonald misses with a two punch combination.

McDonald closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McDonald lands in his opponent's guard.

Germaine is looking to stall here but McDonald recovers full guard.

McDonald manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Germaine manages to get himself to full guard.

Germaine is looking for a sweep. McDonald is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Germaine tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McDonald wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

McDonald wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Germaine, who protects the arm well.

McDonald is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Germaine defends it well.

McDonald throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

McDonald decides to stand and escape the position.

McDonald closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Germaine to the mat! Germaine manages to get full guard.
McDonald seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

McDonald is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
McDonald passes into half guard.
