Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Richard Penniman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Ribeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Richard Penniman has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Richard Penniman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Gustavo Ribeiro! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Joseph Jones and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penniman moves out of range of the strikes. Ribeiro gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Ribeiro tries to clinch but Penniman is having none of it. Penniman connects with a looping right hand.
Penniman throws a series of punches but Ribeiro moves out of range. A jab from Penniman finds it's way through Ribeiro's defenses. Penniman misses with a jab to the body
and Ribeiro decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Penniman's guard. Ribeiro sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Penniman's guard. Ribeiro passes the guard and advances to mount! Ribeiro has control of Penniman's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Penniman regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Penniman keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round. Ribeiro sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Ribeiro prevents Penniman from getting the reversal. A nice elbow there by Ribeiro. Ribeiro forces the positional change into back control. Penniman defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Ribeiro's arms. Penniman rolls, trying to escape but Ribeiro keeps control of the position.

Penniman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ribeiro on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ribeiro gets his hands free as Penniman looks to control. Penniman prevents Ribeiro from getting a body triangle. Ribeiro just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Penniman controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. Penniman tries to break free.
Ribeiro working for a choke but Penniman is defending well. This has been an exciting period of action! Ribeiro is looking to control Penniman but Penniman is wriggling around and keeping busy. Penniman can't escape the position.
Ribeiro slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Well, with Ribeiro on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Penniman is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Ribeiro is looking to control Penniman but Penniman is wriggling around and keeping busy. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Penniman rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Ribeiro is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Ribeiro pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Penniman tries to get back to half guard but can't. Ribeiro dominating with strikes here. Penniman is desperately trying to improve his position but Ribeiro has a good base and remains in mount. Ribeiro is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Penniman is surviving well by controlling Ribeiro's body position as best he can.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ribeiro cracks Penniman with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Penniman tries to improve his position but instead Ribeiro has taken his back! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gustavo Ribeiro dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Penniman misses with a hook. Ribeiro ducked under it nicely. Penniman throws a jab but it's blocked by Ribeiro. Penniman fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ribeiro fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Ribeiro is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Penniman throws a right and a left that Ribeiro avoids nicely. Ribeiro blocks a jab. Penniman misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ribeiro.
Ribeiro takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Ribeiro thows a body shot but no joy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Penniman throws a right hand that misses
and Ribeiro counters with a series of strikes. Penniman will be more careful next time no doubt. Penniman lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Penniman. Penniman gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Ribeiro. Penniman connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Penniman scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fight stays on the outside here - Ribeiro looks like he's thinking about clinching though. A looping hook to the body misses from Penniman. Ribeiro does a little dance to reset his feet. Penniman is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ribeiro. Penniman throws a series of strikes that have Ribeiro backpedaling.
Penniman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Penniman cracks Ribeiro with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Richard Penniman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Penniman misses with a series of wild punches.
Ribeiro moves into the clinch successfully.
Penniman wants to break the clinch but can't.
Penniman is trying to drag Ribeiro to the mat but Ribeiro just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. A frustrated look appears on Penniman's face as he tries to break the clinch. Ribeiro looking for a takedown. Ribeiro is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Penniman pulls him back up using the underhooks. Richard Penniman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gustavo Ribeiro. Penniman gets underhooks to prevent Ribeiro's takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penniman is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Ribeiro has Penniman pressed against the cage, preventing Penniman from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Penniman tries to break free but Ribeiro pushes him back against the cage. Ribeiro gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Penniman.
Penniman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Ribeiro shoots in looking for a takedown. Penniman tries to sprawl out of it but Ribeiro keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Penniman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Ribeiro drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Ribeiro slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Ribeiro working the body and head with strikes. Penniman can't do much from the bottom here. Penniman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ribeiro wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ribeiro controls the position. Ribeiro looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Penniman is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Ribeiro perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Ribeiro has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Ribeiro moves into full mount! Penniman won't be happy about that! Penniman regains half guard. Penniman trying to hold on to Ribeiro's head to control him but Ribeiro postures up.

Ribeiro seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Penniman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ribeiro lands a nice short elbow. Penniman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Ribeiro perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Ribeiro trying to control from half guard but Penniman is working away. Ribeiro is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Penniman sees it coming and defends easily. Ribeiro is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Penniman tries to get to full guard but Ribeiro has control of the leg. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gustavo Ribeiro showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Ribeiro wants to control from the top but Penniman keeps moving. Ribeiro is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Ribeiro advances to half guard. Penniman is refusing to be controlled, as Ribeiro sits in half guard. Ribeiro winds up and cracks Penniman with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Penniman tries to get to full guard but Ribeiro has control of the leg. Ribeiro is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Penniman! Ribeiro landing punches. Penniman tries to reverse the position but Ribeiro maintains control.

Penniman displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ribeiro. Ribeiro misses with a low kick.

Penniman leaves Ribeiro with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Ribeiro closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Penniman sneaks back into half guard. Penniman is looking to improve his position.
Penniman regains full guard. Nicely done. Ribeiro got a little sloppy there for a moment and Penniman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ribeiro has managed to get both his arms back between Penniman's legs - danger averted. Ribeiro passes into half guard. Penniman is in trouble now - Ribeiro has advanced to mount!

Ribeiro is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Penniman is surviving well by controlling Ribeiro's body position as best he can. Richard Penniman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Ribeiro landing punches. Ribeiro breaks from Penniman's wrist control and lands an elbow. Wooooo!
