PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack McHammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takanori Sakurai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McHammer comes to the cage accompanied by Hammerfall - Heeding the Call. Sakurai has chosen number girl syndrome as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack McHammer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Takanori Sakurai !
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Sakurai .

Sakurai fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McHammer sprawls well initially but Sakurai persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Sakurai is pressing down on McHammer's thigh, looking to free his foot. McHammer is holding on for now.
Sakurai frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
McHammer wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Sakurai is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. McHammer doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sakurai .
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McHammer makes his way to full guard, as Sakurai worked for a kimura.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McHammer looks like he's trying to stand up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sakurai looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Takanori Sakurai hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Sakurai shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. McHammer manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Sakurai swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and McHammer is now in Sakurai 's guard. A big mistake from Sakurai there, giving up the dominant position!

Takanori Sakurai showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

and Sakurai makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Sakurai shoots in for a takedown but McHammer shows good takedown defense.

and Sakurai counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. McHammer is lucky that one didn't land flush.

McHammer tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sakurai wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

and Sakurai counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

McHammer can't keep his opponent in guard - Sakurai advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

McHammer is controlling an arm, preventing Sakurai from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

McHammer throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Sakurai uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from McHammer.
McHammer tried to score with a low kick but Sakurai checks it.

Sakurai is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and McHammer defends it well.
McHammer is looking to control Sakurai 's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McHammer avoid being mounted?
