kevin throws a wild combination but nothing lands. van kevin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. DuVernois tries to clinch there but kevin circles away.
kevin goes for a high kick. It partially lands. kevin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. DuVernois looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. kevin stands up and we're back to a striking position. kevin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. DuVernois is breathing heavily. kevin in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. DuVernois wants to control the position but kevin says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. kevin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
kevin stalling. I looks like kevin might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. kevin's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
OK we're going to have a standup here. van kevin hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. kevin delivers a nice body kick. kevin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. kevin moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. kevin should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. kevin is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. DuVernois is trying to escape and kevin transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and DuVernois is forced to tap! Nice work there by kevin! Very nice indeed!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). van kevin!
