PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Genie Kentgens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Baxter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Genie Kentgens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Adam Baxter!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Aafke Stam and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baxter lands the left hand.
Baxter tries to bum rush Kentgens with a series of wild strikes but Kentgens uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Kentgens gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Kentgens goes for a takedown in the clinch but Baxter prevents it.
Baxter has Kentgens pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kentgens manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Kentgens could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Baxter jumps guard but Kentgens stands there with Baxter around his waist. Baxter gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Baxter fails to pull guard.
Genie Kentgens has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Baxter.
Baxter tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kentgens just stands there and leans against the cage.
Baxter looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Kentgens pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Baxter scores with a one two! Kentgens had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Kentgens showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Baxter.

Kentgens shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Baxter pinned against the cage. Baxter gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kentgens looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Kentgens thows a body kick. Baxter tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Kentgens misses with a combination
and Baxter counters with a stiff right hand.
Baxter swinging wildly here.
Baxter lands with a straight right. Kentgens didn't see that one coming.
Baxter looks gassed!
Kentgens lands a high kick!
Kentgens fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Baxter swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Kentgens holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Kentgens lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Baxter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Baxter is not content to let Kentgens control the position.

Kentgens has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kentgens controlling his opponent.
Baxter avoids a series of strikes thrown by Kentgens.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kentgens get's back to his feet.

Kentgens gets the takedown into side control.
Baxter is not content to let Kentgens control the position.
Baxter is trying to escape the position but Kentgens is controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kentgens is trying to get an arm triangle but Baxter is defending well.
Kentgens is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Baxter's shoulder. That is not cool.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Genie Kentgens dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kentgens fails with the takedown.
Baxter throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Kentgens counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Baxter working hard to break the clinch.
Baxter wants to break the clinch but can't.
Baxter is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kentgens gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Kentgens drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kentgens pushes Baxter back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Baxter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kentgens has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Baxter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Baxter goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Baxter misses with the combination.
Baxter lands a jab to the nose.

Kentgens clinches with his opponent.
Kentgens is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Baxter gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Genie Kentgens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Baxter jumps guard but Kentgens stands there with Baxter around his waist. Baxter gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Kentgens has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Baxter uses from the top position.
Kentgens might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Baxter won't allow Kentgens to sweep him here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Baxter would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kentgens tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kentgens has a closed guard, preventing Baxter from standing up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kentgens looking for a sweep. Not yet Kentgens, not yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Genie Kentgens dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Some wild striking there from Baxter.
Kentgens takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Baxter uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Baxter is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Horrible takedown by Kentgens or perhaps it was just good defense by Baxter which made him look bad.
Kentgens avoids a punch combination nicely.
Baxter throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Baxter misses with a double jab

and Kentgens counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kentgens.

Baxter tries to stand but Kentgens is controlling from the bottom.

Kentgens will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Nice takedown defense from Baxter. No joy for Kentgens on that attempt.
Baxter has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Kentgens goes for a takedown attempt but Baxter pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Genie Kentgens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Baxter misses with the combination.
Adam Baxter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Baxter throws a right and a left that Kentgens avoids nicely.

Baxter tries to sprawl but Kentgens drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Baxter is staying active underneath Kentgens, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Baxter pushes Kentgens off looking to stand but Kentgens dives back in and keeps control.

Kentgens is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Baxter is looking to escape.
Baxter has his hands clasped together around Kentgens's back. He's all about the action.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kentgens stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Adam Baxter is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A jab from Baxter finds it's way through Kentgens's defenses.
Kentgens fails with a takedown attempt.
Kentgens takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Adam Baxter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Genie Kentgens is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kentgens shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Baxter as he jumps to the side.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Genie Kentgens.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kentgens, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
