Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Wein! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Schnitzer Schnitz! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Ivan Kurochkin and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schnitz uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Wein. Schnitz with a poor takedown and Wein counters with a good low kick that Schnitz was not able to check. Nice defenses there by Schnitz. Schnitz drives through with a takedown into guard. Schnitz trying to control but Wein is working from the bottom. Schnitz stopping the sweep attempt from Wein. Schnitz pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wein is keeping the position for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wein escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Schnitz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Schnitz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wein has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Schnitz has managed to get both his arms back between Wein's legs - danger averted.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schnitz wants to control from the top but Wein keeps moving. Schnitz is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Wein is pulling down on Schnitz's head to control his posture. Wein knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Schnitz on the ground. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Schnitz trying to control the position from guard on top but Wein is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Schnitz thows a big elbow that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Schnitzer Schnitz. Schnitz on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Schnitz fails with the takedown and Wein counters with a head kick from the bowels of hell that crumples Schnitz! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). John Wein!
