Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gareth Johnston! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jibber Jabber! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Sosuke Kotani and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnston stuffs the takedown attempt from Jabber. Jabber gets slowly back to his feet. Johnston shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Johnston showed some decent athleticism there. Jabber is trying to maintain the position but Johnston is very close to passing his half guard. Johnston seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Jabber wants to improve his position but Johnston is controlling well.

That's one minute gone in the round. Johnston tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnston advances to full mount. Jabber keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Johnston is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jabber is just riding it out for now. Johnston eventually gives up the hold. Jabber trying to control from the bottom.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Johnston fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Johnston is breathing heavily. Jabber wants to clinch up but Johnston keeps it at a distance. Johnston pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Jabber lands with a slapping head kick. Nice body punch from Johnston. Johnston is working for takedown but Jabber is calmly controlling the position for now. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gareth Johnston. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Jabber tries to buck Johnston off but Johnston is having none of it. Johnston is staying tight to Jabber's torso, preventing him from escaping. Jabber tries to get back to half guard but can't. Jabber is letting Johnston control him for a moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jabber is looking for a sweep. Jabber is not content to let Johnston control the position. Jabber is looking to reverse the position.

Jabber had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Johnston is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Jabber Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Johnston's back instead. Johnston tries to break free.

Johnston misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. A big right from Johnston misses. Jabber moves out of range of the body kick from Johnston.
Johnston tries to clinch but Jabber is having none of it. Jabber has his takedown stuffed and Johnston counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Johnston is looking to advance position but Jabber won't allow it. Jabber wants to get back to full guard. Johnston thows a huge punch but Jabber dodges it nicely.
Johnston has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Jabber holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Johnston tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Johnston pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Johnston trying to control but Jabber is having none of it. Jabber tries to hold on but Johnston postures up. Jabber is desperately trying to improve his position but Johnston has a good base and remains in mount. Johnston unloads with some shots from mount but Jabber bucks and avoids them well.

Johnston lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Jabber hang on? Jabber wants to control but Johnston is having none of it. Jabber is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Jabber would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Jabber drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jabber jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Johnston has a closed guard, preventing Jabber from standing up. Jabber trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Johnston wants to hit a switch here but Jabber passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Johnston there! Jabber wants to control the pace but Johnston is squirming around nicely. Johnston is trying desperately to improve position.

Johnston seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Johnston keeping full guard, as Jabber tries to pass. Jabber takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. The fight stays on the outside here - Jabber looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Johnston tries to avoid it but Jabber manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johnston to the ground. Johnston escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Johnston shoots in but Jabber avoids the takedown attempt easily. Johnston swings for the body but Jabber moves out of range.
Jabber takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Johnston looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Johnston is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnston throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Johnston stalling. Johnston looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Johnston will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Johnston perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Johnston is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Jabber reverses the position - he's now on top in Johnston's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Jabber trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnston is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Johnston wants to sweep but no luck. Johnston controls Jabber momentarily but Jabber frees himself. Jabber trying to control but Johnston is working from the bottom. Jabber avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Jabber should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Johnston has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jabber can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Johnston is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Jabber wants to stand but Johnston is controlling his posture from full guard. Johnston pulls Jabber in to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Gareth Johnston just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Johnston closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Johnston is controlling the pace.
Johnston is thwarting Jabber's attempts to control the position. Jabber regains full guard. Nicely done. Johnston stopping the sweep attempt from Jabber. Jabber throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
And that's the end of the fight! Gareth Johnston showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnston, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
