PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dog Gamma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Semenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dog Gamma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dave Semenko!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Semenko pivots, looking for a leg kick but Gamma is out of range and Semenko settles back down.
Gamma misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Semenko counters with a nice leg kick.
Semenko takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Dave Semenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gamma misses with a takedown attempt
and Semenko counters with a good low kick that Gamma was not able to check.
Semenko swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Gamma takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Semenko tries to clinch
and Gamma counters with an outside leg kick.
Semenko is looking to clinch but Gamma is avoiding it.
Semenko takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Semenko takes a swing at Gamma's ribcage but misses.

Semenko clinches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Semenko is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Gamma is defending well for now.
Gamma blocks an elbow strike from Semenko.
Gamma is pushing Semenko up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Gamma manages to break the clinch.

Semenko misses with a low kick.
Gamma looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Semenko throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Gamma counters with a head kick. That will keep Semenko thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

and Gamma counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Semenko's guard now.
Gammais looking to pass into half guard but Semenko pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Semenko is in guard.

Semenko controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Dave Semenko hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

enabling Gamma to counter with a crisp jab.

A low kick from Semenko is predictable there

and Gamma counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Semenko's guard now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gamma stays in close to Semenko's body and controls the position.

Semenko throws his legs up looking for a submission but Gamma uses it to pass to side control.
Gamma moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Gamma lands a few punches from side control.

Gamma happy to just control the position for now.
Gamma misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Semenko wants to control but Gamma postures up.
Gamma is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Semenko tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gamma connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Semenko some visible discomfort.
Gamma is looking to take a break and control but Semenko is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Semenko tries to improve position but can't.
Semenko dodges the ground and pound from Gamma.
Gamma gets to mount! Semenko was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dog Gamma dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

A clash of legs there as Gamma blocks the low kick.
Gamma misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Semenko tries to clinch but Gamma moves away

and Gamma counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Semenko is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Gamma content to control rather than advance.
Dog Gamma overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Gamma trying to control the action but Semenko is working from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Semenko can do anything to dispel that myth.

We're going to have a standup here because Dog Gamma wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Semenko thows a leg kick but Gamma checks it

so Gamma counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Gamma controlling from the top position.
Gamma trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gamma controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gamma wants to control from the top but Semenko keeps moving.

and Gamma counters with a head kick. That will keep Semenko thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gamma is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Semenko is trying to get back to full guard.
Semenko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gamma. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Semenko has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gamma is working away from the top position though.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gamma lands a nice short elbow.

Still in half guard, Gamma seems content to control.
Semenko is pressing down on Gamma's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Gamma wants to control from the top but Semenko keeps moving.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Dog Gamma just wasn't active enough.
Gamma throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Semenko closes the distance but Gamma moves to the side
and Gamma counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Semenko tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gamma paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Dog Gamma is winning the standup battle so far.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Semenko.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gamma pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Semenko is looking to clinch.
Gamma works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dog Gamma dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Semenko throws out a loose jab but Gamma uses good head movement to avoid it.

Semenko looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gamma is one step ahead there.
Gamma is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Semenko can do to turn this around?

Dog Gamma has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Semenko throws a lazy body kick

and Gamma counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Gamma thows a huge punch but Semenko dodges it nicely.
Semenko wants to control but Gamma is keeping busy.
Gamma working over Semenko with some ground and pound. Semenko looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Gamma is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Dog Gamma is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Gamma is looking to advance position but Semenko won't allow it.

Gamma shoots in but Semenko avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Semenko takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Gamma counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Semenko!

Gamma has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Gamma throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dave Semenko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Semenko gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Gamma counters with a good, hard body kick but Semenko shrugs it off.
Semenko throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Gamma counters with a one-two to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dog Gamma showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gamma, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
