Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, James Howlett! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Takeshi Miike! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Howlett avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Miike fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Howlett checks it well. Howlett takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Howlett darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Howlett swings widly with a right hand
and Miike counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Howlett tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Howlett tries to clinch up. Howlett misses the body punch and Miike counters with a single leg into guard. Howlett didn't expect that. Howlett is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Miike trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Miike works a leg free and moves into half guard. Howlett tries to roll over but Miike keeps him under control. Howlett makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Howlett. Miike postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Howlett looking for a sweep. Not yet Howlett, not yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miike pushes down on Howlett's leg and manages to get into half guard. Miike is looking to advance position but Howlett won't allow it. Miike sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Howlett defending well though. Ground and pound from Miike. Miike thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Howlett wants to get back to his feet.
Miike lands strikes from half guard. Nice strikes from Miike there. Miike is looking for a kimura but Howlett is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Miike to get the leverage. Howlett avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Miike. Miike wants to pass the guard but Howlett is defending well. Howlett has hold of Miike's hands but Miike slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Miike wants to control but Howlett is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Miike is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Howlett is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Howlett avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Miike. Miike thows a huge punch but Howlett dodges it nicely.
Howlett knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Miike on the ground. Howlett keeping hold of Miike's head, controlling as best he can. Miike thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Howlett's head. Miike wants to free his trapped foot but Howlett is holding on for dear life with his legs. Howlett is looking to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Howlett won't allow Miike to pass to mount. Miike not landing any meaningful shots this time. Miike thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Howlett's head. Miike slips a nice elbow through Howlett's hands, connecting with Howlett's forehead. Howlett keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Howlett tries to roll over but Miike keeps him under control. Miike working Howlett over with strikes. Miike looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Miike throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Howlett has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Miike is working away from the top position though. Miike is looking to advance position but Howlett won't allow it. Howlett tries to roll over but Miike keeps him under control. Miike missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Miike is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Howlett keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Miike wants to take a breather but Howlett is having none of it. Miike thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Howlett to regain full guard. Miike tries to free his leg and advance position but Howlett is retaining full guard. Howlett pulls Miike in close to his closed guard and prevents Miike from doing any damage or advancing position. Miike is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Takeshi Miike dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Howlett throws a right and a left that both miss. Howlett uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Miike has time to react. Miike looks to land a combination. Howlett sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Howlett stuffs the takedown attempt from Miike. Miike gets slowly back to his feet. Howlett throws a left and a right that both miss
and Miike counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Howlett misses with a hook
and Miike counters with a takedown into side control. Miike working away. Miike has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Miike tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Miike has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Howlett manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Miike is looking to control Howlett's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Miike avoid being mounted?
That's one minute gone in the round. Howlett is just content to waste time from the top position. Miike takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Miike throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Miike is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Miike is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Miike is pressing down on Howlett's thigh, looking to free his foot. Howlett is holding on for now. Howlett pushes Miike off looking to stand but Miike dives back in and keeps control.
Miike is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Howlett reverses the position - he's now on top in Miike's guard. Miike pulls Howlett in close to his closed guard and prevents Howlett from doing any damage or advancing position. Takeshi Miike has got the better of the ground game so far. Miike working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Howlett.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Howlett got a little sloppy there for a moment and Miike has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Howlett has managed to get both his arms back between Miike's legs - danger averted. Miike trying to control the position here. Miike has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Howlett can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Howlett engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Miike trying to keep a closed guard but Howlett is proving a slippery customer.
Miike might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Howlett kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Miike preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Miike keeping moving, preventing Howlett from controlling successfully.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of James Howlett. Howlett wants to clinch and Miike counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Howlett! Miike throws a wild left hand from mount and Howlett manages to wriggle his way back to half guard. Miike is pressing down on Howlett's thigh, looking to free his foot. Howlett is holding on for now. Howlett wants to get back to full guard. Howlett is trying is best to control the position here. Miike seems to be looking for submissions.

Takeshi Miike showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Miike throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Howlett's waist but Howlett gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Miike off to one side. Howlett throws an off balance right hand
and Miike counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. A swing and a miss from Miike. Miike circles away from the clinch attempt.
Howlett tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Miike was well out of range. Poor timing from Howlett. Howlett throws a combination that misses and Miike counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Howlett lands a nice looking body shot.

and Miike counters with a nice uppercut. Howlett uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Miike.
Miike thumps Howlett with a low kick. Miike showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Howlett.
Howlett is looking to clinch but Miike is avoiding it.

and Miike counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Howlett lands with a hook. Miike tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Howlett rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Miike counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Howlett tries to clinch there but Miike circles away.
James Howlett is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Howlett wants to clinch up but Miike keeps it at a distance. Miike scores with a shot to the body.
Miike lands a nice hook to Howlett's body. Howlett takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Miike connects with a body shot that sends Howlett's belly button to the back. Howlett displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Miike throws out the jab. Miike connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. James Howlett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Howlett throws a right hand that misses
and Miike cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Howlett lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Miike at a distance.

and Miike makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Howlett misses with a lunging right hand
and Miike counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Howlett! Miike scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Miike is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Howlett has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Howlett is bucking up trying to escape but Miike cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Miike looking to control but Howlett is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Miike throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Howlett because Miike loaded up on that one. Miike throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Howlett holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Miike tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Howlett wants to hold on but Miike pushes him away. Howlett is squirming around, avoiding Miike's attempts to control the action.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miike goes for an armbar but Howlett turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Howlett. Miike is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Howlett defends well. Miike has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Howlett doesn't defend quickly enough and Miike has managed to lock this one up! Can Howlett escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Miike on a fantastic submission victory.
