PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rocky Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bedros Adruni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rocky Balboa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bedros Adruni!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Kavanagh and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Balboa doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Adruni counters with a single leg into guard. Balboa didn't expect that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Adruni gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Adruni is looking to clinch but Balboa is avoiding it.
Balboa shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Adruni counters with a shoot takedown. Balboa fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Balboa is trying to control the position but Adruni postures up.

Adruni stands and steps away. Balboa gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Adruni moves into range and clinches up with Balboa.

Adruni manages to break the clinch.

Balboa feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Balboa looking to sit in guard and control but Adruni gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Adruni decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Adruni shoots in and gets a takedown into Balboa's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Adruni throws out a leg kick but Balboa moves out of range and Adruni only half commits.

Adruni throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Balboa tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Adruni is in Balboa's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Adruni stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Adruni shoots in and bounces Balboa off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Adruni gets to his feet. Balboa looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Bedros Adruni dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Adruni looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Balboa with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Bedros Adruni showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Balboa gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Adruni to score an easy takedown into full guard.


It looks like Rocky Balboa has been cut.
Balboa has momentary wrist control but Adruni slips an elbow through the middle.
Balboa might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Adruni not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Balboa thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Balboa enables Adruni to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Balboa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Adruni tightens his grip and picks Balboa up, before dumping him to the ground. Balboa manages to land in guard.

Balboa is working an open guard so Adruni takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Rocky Balboa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bedros Adruni is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Balboa sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bedros Adruni comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Adruni has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
