The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzalez throws a right hand that Cao ducks under and follows up with a left that Cao also avoids with ease.
Gonzalez lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Cao throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Gonzalez counters with a body kick that stops Cao in his tracks momentarily.
Cao thuds a left hand into Gonzalez's body.
Cao waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Gonzalez.
Gonzalez tries to clinch up
and Cao counters with a right hand to the body.
No joy there for Gonzalez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Cao counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cao wants the takedown. Gonzalez is fighting it off but Cao persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Gonzalez's guard against the cage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cao drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gonzalez dives on top into guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kaien Cao dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Cao counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Gonzalez throws a leg kick which misses Cao's front leg but catches the back leg as Cao tries to avoid it.

Cao cracks Gonzalez with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Cao tries to keep at a distance but Gonzalez has taken the fight into the clinch.

Cao avoids a wild elbow strike from Gonzalez.
Gonzalez throws a knee to the head but misses.

Gonzalez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gonzalez needs to keep his hands up - Cao had a free shot at his head there.

and Gonzalez counters with a series of strikes. Cao will be more careful next time no doubt.

Cao has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gonzalez uses from the top position.

Gonzalez wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Cao's closed guard. He's half up but Cao has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Cao pivots and extends the arm, Gonzalez falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Cao! Well done that man!
