Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rian Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Sherk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rian Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tom Sherk!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cox tries to sprawl but Sherk drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Sherk slows the pace down in half guard.
Sherk slips a nice elbow through Cox's hands, connecting with Cox's forehead.

Sherk is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Cox has managed to free his arm - good work.
Sherk tries to stand and escape but Cox is controlling the position.
Sherk wants to pass the guard but Cox is defending well.
Cox looks like he's trying to stand up.

Sherk is working for a kimura here but Cox manages to reverse the position and he's now in Sherk's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sherk wants to sweep here but Cox controlling him for the moment.
Sherk is looking to sweep but instead, Cox has passed into half guard.
Sherk keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Cox wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sherk keeps working.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Cox is trying to work for a kimura but Sherk is defending well.
Cox seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sherk does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Sherk has his hands clasped together around Cox's back. He's all about the action.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Cox tries to pass to full mount but Sherk defends it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sherk throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cox fails with the takedown.
Cox fails with a takedown attempt.
Cox fails to land with a series of punches.
Sherk fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sherk shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cox defends it nicely.
Cox closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sherk circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rian Cox. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cox is breathing heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sherk tries a head kick but it misses.
Sherk is looking to clinch.

Cox gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sherk to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Sherk wants to stand and escape but instead Cox has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Cox passes into half guard.
Cox seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sherk does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cox lands a nice short elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Sherk dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Cox throws a left and a right that both miss

so Sherk counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sherk sitting in guard here, content to control.
Cox is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sherk is stalling in the full guard.
Cox not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sherk trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cox pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sherk shoots in looking for a takedown but Cox manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sherk's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Cox will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cox keeps Sherk at a distance using the push kick.
Cox wants to clinch.
Sherk fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Cox checks it well.
Cox connects with a solid leg kick.
Sherk should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Cox looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sherk is fending him off so far but Cox persists. Nope, Sherk circles away and we're back to standing.
Cox throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sherk throws a right and a left that Cox avoids nicely.

Sherk misses with the body kick
and Cox counters with a solid body kick.
Rian Cox is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The fight stays on the outside here - Sherk looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cox dives in and grabs Sherk's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sherk pushes down on Cox's head and hops out.

Sherk misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sherk circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sherk slaps away a takedown attempt from Cox, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Sherk tries to close the distance and clinch but Cox swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Nice takedown defense from Cox. No joy for Sherk on that attempt.
Cox lands a head kick!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cox is defended easily by Sherk.
Sherk tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cox sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sherk somewhat.
Cox shoots in looking for a takedown but Sherk manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cox's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sherk shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cox's guard.

Cox wants to get back to his feet but Sherk is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sherk postures up.
Cox wants to stand up but Sherk is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Sherk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Sherk closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Sherk changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cox fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Cox shoots in but Sherk avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sherk fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Cox shoots in looking for a takedown. Sherk tries to sprawl out of it but Cox keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sherk manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sherk looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cox tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cox tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sherk swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Cox will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Sherk shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cox but Cox pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Cox wants to clinch up but Sherk keeps it at a distance.
Sherk misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Horrible takedown by Sherk or perhaps it was just good defense by Cox which made him look bad.
Cox is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Cox is looking to clinch but Sherk is avoiding it.
Cox fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Sherk checks it well.
Sherk shoots in and drives through. Cox sprawls well.
Sherk on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Cox shoots in for a double leg but Sherk sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Sherk is trying to drag Cox to the mat but Cox just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Cox manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Sherk controlling from the top position.
Sherk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cox. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sherk wants to stand but Cox is controlling his posture from full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rian Cox showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Sherk has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
