Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brian Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Travis Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penn comes to the cage accompanied by Go To Church. Edwards has chosen God's Gonna Cut You Down By Jonny Cash as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Edwards tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Edwards throws a hook but Penn avoids it easily. A momentary lapse in concentration from Edwards enables Penn to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Edwards manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Penn drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Edwards dives on top into guard. Penn wants to stand up but Edwards is controlling him. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Penn holds on and takes a little breather.
That's one minute gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Penn is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Penn wants to control from the top but Edwards keeps moving. Penn stands and throws Edwards's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Penn tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Penn is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Edwards has escaped the position, nice work there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Edwards struggling a bit here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Edwards tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Penn easily slips into full mount! Edwards is squirming around, avoiding Penn's attempts to control the action. Penn throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Poor strikes thrown by Penn there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Penn lands a heavy elbow. Edwards wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Penn.
Penn controlling the position easily from mount. Penn is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Edwards is surviving well by controlling Penn's body position as best he can. Penn swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Edwards is now in Penn's guard. A big mistake from Penn there, giving up the dominant position! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brian Penn dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Edwards tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Penn is able to avoid easily. Penn fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Edwards manages to avoid it. Edwards misses with an attempted mid kick.

That's one minute gone in the round. Edwards fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Penn lands a nice shot to the body.

and Penn counters with a one-two to the body. Penn takes a swing at Edwards's ribcage but misses. Edwards is looking to score with low kicks. Penn ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Edwards moves away. Edwards ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

and Penn counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Penn misses with a left hand and Edwards finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body. Edwards throws a lazy uppercut
and Penn decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Edwards's guard. Edwards looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Edwards really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Penn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Penn slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Penn has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Travis Edwards hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Edwards fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Penn on the side of the head. Edwards thuds his right hand into Penn's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Penn throws a poor cross that misses
letting Edwards counter with a right hand. Edwards throws out a leg kick but Penn moves out of range and Edwards only half commits. Penn tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Edwards was well out of range. Poor timing from Penn. Edwards lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Edwards throws a good cross that connects.

and Penn counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Penn connects with a good right hand that stumbles Edwards. Edwards circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Edwards, right into the meat.
Penn thows a body shot but no joy. A low kick from Edwards is predictable there and Penn counters with a lovely shot to the body. Edwards lands with a hook. Penn tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Travis Edwards showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

and Edwards counters with a head kick. Penn lands a nice hook to Edwards's body. Edwards takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Good leg kick by Edwards there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

and Penn counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Penn trying to control from half guard but Edwards is working away. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Edwards can do anything to dispel that myth. Penn thows a huge punch but Edwards dodges it nicely.
Edwards avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Penn. Penn is trying to control the action in half guard but Edwards is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn throwing shots but Edwards is blocking nicely. Edwards has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Penn is working away from the top position though. Penn is looking for a kimura here.
Penn seems to be looking for submissions.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Edwards is staying active underneath Penn, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Penn trying to control the pace. Penn landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Penn is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Edwards sees it coming and defends easily. Edwards tries to kick Penn off but Penn keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Penn throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Penn prevents Edwards from standing back up.
Penn misses with a head shot. Edwards uses the momentum to regain guard. Penn trying to control but Edwards is working from the bottom.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brian Penn. I think Penn has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
