Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Jefferies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vasquez has chosen Careless Whisper as his entrance music. The key to victory for Brian Jefferies has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Jefferies!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Vasquez!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vasquez scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Jefferies is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jefferies is working hard here to advance position.
Jefferies is pressing down on Vasquez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Jefferies is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Vasquez passes into half guard.

Jefferies pushes Vasquez off and gets back to his feet.

Jefferies shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Vasquez's guard.
Jefferies is pushing down on Vasquez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Vasquez is fighting to maintain full guard but Jefferies has managed to sneak the leg through.
Jefferies is trying to control the action in half guard but Vasquez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Jefferies is keen to just control but Vasquez is a slippery customer.

Vasquez is looking to regain half guard here but Jefferies keeps moving and retains side control.

Vasquez is not content to let Jefferies control the position.
Vasquez is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Vasquez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jefferies won't be happy with that.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jefferies can't do much from the bottom here.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Jefferies tries to buck Vasquez off but Vasquez is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Vasquez dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Vasquez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jefferies looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Jefferies is trying to control Vasquez's posture but Vasquez avoids it.
Jefferies tries to get back to half guard but can't.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Jefferies can't do much from the bottom here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jefferies is trying to improve his position.
Jefferies is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Vasquez off and has taken his back!

Jefferies throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Jefferies is persistently looking for the submission but Vasquez is defending it well.
Jefferies wants to control but Vasquez manages to buck him off and is now in Jefferies's guard! Nice work there by Vasquez!

Jefferies escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vasquez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Vasquez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Jefferies had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Vasquez is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Jefferies Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Vasquez's back instead.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Vasquez avoids the strikes from Jefferies.
Vasquez covering up well under a barage of strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jefferies is trying to stick to Vasquez's back but Vasquez is turning into Jefferies. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Jefferies's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Vasquez.

Jefferies looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close second round but I would say that Brian Jefferies will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Jefferies swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jefferies throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Nice sprawl there from Jefferies as Vasquez shoots in.
Jefferies throws a leg kick but Vasquez moved away.

Vasquez drives through with a takedown into guard.

Jefferies is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Vasquez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Vasquez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Vasquez postures up.
Jefferies doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Jefferies working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vasquez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vasquez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jefferies wants to sweep here but Vasquez controlling him for the moment.
Jefferies is trying to control the position but Vasquez postures up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Jefferies has his foot on Vasquez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vasquez works his way back into a safe position though.
Vasquez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Jefferies wants to stand but Vasquez is controlling the position.
Jefferies looking to hit a scissor sweep but Vasquez is one step ahead there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jefferies is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Vasquez is controlling him.

Vasquez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Vasquez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jefferies wants to hit a switch here but Vasquez passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Jefferies there!

Michael Vasquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Vasquez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
