Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 2, fighting out of New York, Ryan Brown! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Charlie Furstenfeld! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, David Schapiro and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brown connects with a body shot. Brown jabbing away but nothing is landing. Furstenfeld ducks under a wild hook from Brown. Brown connects with a single shot there. Brown misses with a right hand and Furstenfeld counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. A head kick misses from Brown. Brown throws a lazy uppercut
and Furstenfeld counters with a stiff right hand. Brown lands the left hand. Brown buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Brown misses the shot to the body. Brown throws out a loose jab but Furstenfeld uses good head movement to avoid it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Furstenfeld takes one on the button. Furstenfeld displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Brown throws out the jab. Furstenfeld decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Brown is looking to improve his position.
Furstenfeld content to control rather than advance. Brown is not content to let Furstenfeld control the position. Furstenfeld trying to pass the guard but Brown defending well. Brown wants to control but Furstenfeld is keeping busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Furstenfeld looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Furstenfeld looks to land a strike but Brown avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Brown is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Furstenfeld is controlling him. Brown looking to hit a scissor sweep but Furstenfeld is one step ahead there. Furstenfeld sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Brown's guard. Brown knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Furstenfeld on the ground. Still in half guard, Furstenfeld seems content to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Brown is looking to improve his position.
Furstenfeld is looking to advance position but Brown won't allow it. Furstenfeld uses his free foot to push down on Brown's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Brown. Furstenfeld is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Brown has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Furstenfeld looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Furstenfeld prevents Brown from getting the reversal. Brown is working hard here to advance position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Furstenfeld tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Furstenfeld moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Brown has worked his arm free - good work by Brown!
Furstenfeld wants to control but Brown is keeping him busy. Furstenfeld just content to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Brown is not content to let Furstenfeld control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Charlie Furstenfeld dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Furstenfeld checks a leg kick. Furstenfeld shoots in but no luck this time. Brown throws a combination that misses and Furstenfeld counters with a nice uppercut. Furstenfeld checks a leg kick. Furstenfeld slips a jab and a cross from Brown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Brown pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Brown misses with a left hand so Furstenfeld counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Brown can't keep his opponent in guard - Furstenfeld advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Brown trying to control from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Furstenfeld is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Brown sees it coming and defends easily. Furstenfeld missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Furstenfeld wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brown keeps working. Brown wants to control but Furstenfeld is keeping busy.
Brown pushes Furstenfeld off and gets back to his feet. Brown throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Furstenfeld connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. A shot to the body from Brown misses and Furstenfeld counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Brown!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Furstenfeld controlling the pace for now. Brown is wriggling around trying to escape.
Furstenfeld is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Brown is surviving well by controlling Furstenfeld's body position as best he can. Brown keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Furstenfeld looking for a guillotine from mount but Brown is having none of it. Furstenfeld looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Furstenfeld working away from the top, dropping strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Furstenfeld looking to control but Brown is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Brown defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Furstenfeld. Furstenfeld swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Brown is now in Furstenfeld's guard. A big mistake from Furstenfeld there, giving up the dominant position! Brown trying to control but Furstenfeld is working from the bottom. Furstenfeld had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Brown defends it easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Furstenfeld is looking for a triangle but Brown pushes his legs off easily.
Charlie Furstenfeld has got the better of the ground game so far. Furstenfeld looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brown is one step ahead there. Furstenfeld utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Furstenfeld is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Brown has his hands clasped together but Furstenfeld extends an breaks Brown's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Furstenfeld.
