Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Koscheck! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nicholai Sweed! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sweed rushes Koscheck and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Koscheck can't get the takedown.
Sweed landing knees to the head.
Sweed works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Koscheck throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Sweed landing with the ground and pound. Koscheck avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Sweed postures up in Koscheck's guard and throws a big left but Koscheck blocks it. Koscheck wants to sweep but no luck. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Koscheck working a defensive guard here.
Koscheck bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sweed's guard. Sweed really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Koscheck. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sweed looking for a sweep. Not yet Sweed, not yet. Koscheck has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Koscheck lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Koscheck trying to control the position from guard on top but Sweed is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Koscheck passes Sweed's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Sweed is in trouble now - Koscheck has advanced to mount! Koscheck lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Koscheck dominating with strikes here. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sweed really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Koscheck with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Koscheck lands a nice shot to the head. Koscheck landing punches. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sweed tries to get back to half guard but can't. Sweed takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Sweed is trying to escape the mount.
Koscheck working away from the top, dropping strikes. Koscheck breaks from Sweed's wrist control and lands an elbow. Koscheck is breathing heavily.
Koscheck working for a guillotine from mount but Sweed is in no mood to give up. Koscheck unloading with bombs! Koscheck scoring with strikes but Sweed is staying in there. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Koscheck cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Sweed is wriggling around trying to escape.
Sweed throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. A nice elbow there by Koscheck. Koscheck prevents Sweed from getting the reversal.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Koscheck breaks from Sweed's wrist control and lands an elbow. Koscheck looking to finish Sweed with some ground and pound. This is bad for Sweed! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sweed can do anything to dispel that myth. A nice elbow there by Koscheck.
Koscheck is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Sweed has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Sweed! Koscheck controlling Sweed's posture. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Koscheck lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sweed! Koscheck raining down shots from the mount! A nice elbow there by Koscheck. Koscheck looking to finish Sweed with some ground and pound. This is bad for Sweed!

Sweed is rocked! Koscheck has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Sweed's face.
Sweed is still in real trouble! Can Koscheck finish him? Koscheck punching from mount but Sweed doing a good job of avoiding damage. Koscheck throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Sweed wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Koscheck.
Koscheck thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
 That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sweed seems to have recovered his senses. Sweed is trying desperately to improve position. Koscheck has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Sweed's face.
Koscheck with a couple of short strikes. Sweed manages to regain half guard. Good work. Sweed is looking for a sweep. Koscheck is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
 Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Koscheck shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sweed as he jumps to the side. Koscheck shoots for a double leg takedown but Sweed sprawls well. He's pushed Koscheck's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Koscheck. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sweed drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Sweed postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Sweed pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Koscheck is keeping the position for now. Sweed pushing down on Koscheck's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Sweed working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Koscheck trying to control here.
Koscheck wants to improve his position but Sweed is controlling well.
Sweed seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Koscheck does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Koscheck moves into full guard.
Koscheck is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Sweed won't allow Koscheck to sweep him here. Koscheck bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sweed's guard.
Sweed scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Koscheck has his takedown stuffed and Sweed counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Koscheck with a poor takedown and Sweed makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Koscheck really felt that one! Koscheck shoots and misses
and Sweed counters by moving into the clinch. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sweed is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Koscheck pulls him back up using the underhooks. Koscheck tries for a takedown but Sweed manages to get underhooks.

Josh Koscheck dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Koscheck breaks from Sweed's wrist control and lands an elbow. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Koscheck working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Sweed looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Koscheck! Submission of the night perhaps?
