Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksander Emelianenko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ze Neto! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Viktor Lagutenko and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Neto with a lazy takedown attempt and Emelianenko counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
It looks like Ze Neto has been cut. Neto misses with a takedown attempt and Emelianenko counters with a lovely straight right hand! Emelianenko stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Emelianenko wants it to stay on the feet. Aleksander Emelianenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ze Neto. Neto tries for a takedown but Emelianenko circles away easily enabling Emelianenko to counter with a crisp jab. Emelianenko lands with a shot to the body. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Neto with a poor takedown and Emelianenko counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Neto looks gassed! Neto doesn't succeed with the takedown and Emelianenko counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Emelianenko fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Neto checks it well. Neto on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Emelianenko throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Neto's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Emelianenko dives in looking to finish as Neto flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Emelianenko's strikes! Emelianenko is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Neto's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Neto was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Aleksander Emelianenko!
