The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves leaves Doubleday with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Doubleday closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Alves did well to prevent Doubleday getting side control.
Alves is trying to stand.

Doubleday is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Well, if Doubleday is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Doubleday is working for a submission of some sort.
Alves is trying to stand up here but Doubleday is controlling him well.

Doubleday creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Alves sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Doubleday feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Doubleday wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Alves lands with a hook. Doubleday tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Alves fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Doubleday has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
