PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Cho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Varun Kumar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jerry Cho has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jerry Cho seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jerry Cho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Varun Kumar!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kumar slips a jab and a cross from Cho.

Kumar drives through and clinches with Cho against the cage.
Cho gets through Kumar's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Cho wants the takedown. Kumar is fighting it off but Cho persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kumar's guard against the cage.
Cho being controlled here momentarily.

Cho drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cho jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kumar pulls Cho in to control the position.
Cho stays in close to Kumar's body and controls the position.
Cho tries to stand but Kumar is controlling from the bottom.
Kumar pulls Cho in close to his closed guard and prevents Cho from doing any damage or advancing position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Cho wants to stand but Kumar is controlling his posture from full guard.
Kumar manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kumar prevents Cho from getting the reversal.

Kumar is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Cho can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Kumar won't let Cho get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Kumar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Cho tries to reverse the position but Kumar maintains control.
A nice elbow there by Kumar.

Cho has left one of his arms exposed and Kumar doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Cho screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Varun Kumar!
