PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Molibdenowy Mateusz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Linquin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mateusz comes to the cage accompanied by Droga. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Molibdenowy Mateusz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Anthony Linquin!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Linquin misses with a head kick.
Mateusz looks to clinch

and Linquin counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Linquin.

Linquin drags the fight down to the ground.
Mateusz passes Linquin's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mateusz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Linquin on the ground.
Linquin is pressing down on Mateusz's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Linquin trying to control the position here.
Linquin has a closed guard, preventing Mateusz from standing up.
Linquin is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Linquin wants to sweep here but Mateusz controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mateusz tries for a takedown but Linquin circles away easily

and Linquin moves into the clinch.
Mateusz tries to pull guard but Linquin holds him up against the cage and eventually Mateusz drops back down to his feet.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Linquin misses with an elbow strike.
Mateusz is trying to push Linquin away but Linquin has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Linquin avoids the elbow strike from Mateusz, against the cage.

Linquin is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Mateusz can't fight it off and eventually Linquin manages to take the fight to the floor. Mateusz looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Linquin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mateusz works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Linquin's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Mateusz is working an open guard so Linquin takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

and Linquin moves into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Molibdenowy Mateusz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Linquin turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Linquin cracks Mateusz with a big elbow.
You can see the frustration on Mateusz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Linquin misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Mateusz tries to buck Linquin off but Linquin is having none of it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Linquin thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Mateusz tries to improve position but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Linquin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Linquin blocks a head kick by Mateusz.
Mateusz closes the distance looking to clinch

and Linquin counters by moving into the clinch.

Linquin jumps guard.

Linquin kicks Mateusz off and gets to his feet.
Mateusz misses with a takedown attempt

and Linquin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Linquin.

Linquin decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Mateusz tries to clinch up

and Linquin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Linquin pulls guard successfully.
Linquin controlling the position.
Linquin's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Linquin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mateusz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Linquin looking for a guillotine here but Mateusz defends easily.

Linquin is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mateusz is trying to stall.
Linquin is looking to break free of the clinch but Mateusz has double underhooks.

Linquin jumps into guard, dragging Mateusz to the mat.
Linquin pulls Mateusz in to control the position.
Mateusz trying to stand up but can't free himself from Linquin's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Linquin seems keen to control Mateusz's posture.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Anthony Linquin was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Mateusz looks to clinch

and Linquin counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Linquin.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Linquin has Mateusz pressed against the cage.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Mateusz looking for a takedown.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mateusz wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Linquin jumps guard and drags Mateusz to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Linquin is pulling down on Mateusz's head. It's preventing any offense from Mateusz, at least for the moment.

Linquin trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Linquin throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Mateusz looking to sit in guard and control but Linquin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Linquin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Linquin throws a right hand that Mateusz ducks under and follows up with a left that Mateusz also avoids with ease.
Mateusz throws a shot from downtown. Linquin moves away and avoids it.
Mateusz throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Linquin throws the left hand but Mateusz avoids the punch easily.
Mateusz gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Linquin counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mateusz won't be happy with that.
Mateusz is working to avoid the ground and pound but Linquin connects with a decent elbow.
Mateusz is being controlled here.
Mateusz is trying to buck Linquin off.
Anthony Linquin has got the better of the ground game so far.
Linquin just content to control the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Let's hope that Linquin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Linquin has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A slow jab from Linquin misses its intended target.
Mateusz fails with the takedown

and Linquin counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mateusz's guard now.
Linquin forces his way into half guard.
Linquin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Linquin is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Mateusz!
Linquin lands a big shot there that rocks Mateusz but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Linquin controlling his opponent.
Linquin cracks Mateusz with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Linquin landing strikes from the mount and Mateusz is in trouble!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Linquin controlling his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anthony Linquin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Linquin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
