PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ravi Matos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ravi Matos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, George Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matos tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Matos wants to clinch

and Diaz decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Matos's guard.
Diaz looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Diaz stops Matos from standing up.
Diaz stays in close to Matos's body and controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Diaz is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Matos is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Matos has escaped and now he's on top!

Matos missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diaz pushes Matos off and scrambles back to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Diaz.
Matos wants to get back to his feet.

Diaz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Diaz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Diaz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Diaz tries for a kimura but Matos is defending well.

Diaz working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Diaz is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Matos tries to escape but Diaz is in control.
Matos tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Diaz controlling the pace for now.
Matos might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Matos is trying to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Diaz dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nice sprawl there from Matos as Diaz shoots in.
Matos throws a head kick but Diaz moves out of range.

Diaz scores a takedown into full mount!

Diaz moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Matos has worked his arm free - good work by Matos!
Matos is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Diaz is controlling him well.
Diaz tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Diaz prevents Matos from escaping the position.

Diaz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Matos knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Diaz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Matos knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Diaz just content to control the position.
Diaz has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Matos!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Matos really wants to buck Diaz off and get back to his feet.

Diaz has control of Matos's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Matos regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Matos is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Diaz looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Matos is fending him off so far but Diaz persists. Nope, Matos circles away and we're back to standing.
Diaz is trying hard to land a takedown here. Matos sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Matos wants to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Matos. No joy for Diaz on that attempt.
Ravi Matos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of George Diaz.
Matos throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Diaz.
A head kick misses from Matos.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Matos on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Matos tries to get out of the position.
Diaz can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Matos is looking to escape.

Diaz goes for an armbar but Matos turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Matos.

Diaz is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Diaz tries to score a body lock takedown but Matos shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Matos manages to break the clinch.
Matos tries to clinch but Diaz moves out of range.
Matos looks to land a combination but Diaz avoids it well.

Diaz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Matos is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Diaz is controlling him well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Matos sneaks out the side door and pushes Diaz away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Diaz avoids the head kick by Matos.
Matos throws a head kick but Diaz moves out of range.

Diaz drives through with a takedown into guard.
Matos wants to stand and escape but Diaz is having none of it.
Diaz controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Matos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Matos is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
George Diaz has got the better of the ground game so far.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. George Diaz wasn't active enough on the ground.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Diaz.

Diaz has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Matos is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Diaz yanks on the arm and Matos is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Diaz.
