The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santos with a lazy takedown attempt and Oliver counters with a lovely straight right hand! Santos misses with a takedown attempt and Oliver counters with a lovely straight right hand! Oliver closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Santos avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Oliver. Oliver swings around for an armbar but Santos sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Oliver's guard. Oliver working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Santos has passed into half guard!
Santos is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Oliver defends it well. Oliver looking for submissions off his back. The fighters are battling for position here. Oliver manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Oliver has his foot on Santos's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Santos works his way back into a safe position though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Santos thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oliver has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Santos should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Oliver has tightened it up now! Santos should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jim Oliver!
