PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Freddy Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Haskins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves comes into the arena with Trik Turner - Friends and Family blaring out of the sound system. Freddy Alves had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kevin Haskins!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Haskins gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Alves rushes Haskins and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Haskins has Alves pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Alves manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Haskins has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Alves avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

It looks like Kevin Haskins has been cut.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Haskins has his foot on Alves's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alves works his way back into a safe position though.

Haskins drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Alves manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Haskins has Alves in his guard.
Alves slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Haskins isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Alves stacks Haskins on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Alves!

Alves throws out a loose jab but Haskins uses good head movement to avoid it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Haskins with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Alves to score with a decent uppercut.

And that's the end of the fight!
Freddy Alves showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Alves, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
