Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Freddy Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Haskins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kevin Haskins! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Haskins gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Alves rushes Haskins and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Haskins has Alves pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Alves manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Haskins has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Alves avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Alves has Haskins pushed against the cage. Alves with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Alves lands a right hand.
It looks like Kevin Haskins has been cut. Haskins gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Haskins drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Alves dives on top into guard. Alves trying to control the position from guard on top but Haskins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Alves tries to stand but Haskins is controlling from the bottom. Haskins has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Alves can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Haskins has his foot on Alves's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alves works his way back into a safe position though. Alves has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Alves seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Haskins is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Haskins ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Alves throws a right and a left that Haskins avoids nicely. That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Decent striking displayed by Alves there. Alves throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Haskins with a poor takedown and Alves counters with a one-two to the body. Alves moves into range and connects with a jab. Haskins shoots and misses and Haskins takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alves throws a shot from downtown. Haskins moves away and avoids it. Freddy Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Haskins darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Haskins drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Alves manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Haskins has Alves in his guard. Alves slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Haskins isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Alves stacks Haskins on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Alves! Haskins tries to get back to half guard but can't. You can see the frustration on Haskins's face as Alves controls the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alves stands up. Alves throws out a loose jab but Haskins uses good head movement to avoid it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Haskins with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Alves to score with a decent uppercut.
And that's the end of the fight! Freddy Alves showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Alves, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
