PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Villarreal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brick Madson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Villarreal has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Villarreal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brick Madson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Madson avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Madson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Madson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Villarreal misses with a right hand

and Madson counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Madson manages to pull guard.
Villarreal wants to stand but Madson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Villarreal is breathing heavily.
Madson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Madson wants to finish this one by submission but Villarreal is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Madson.

Madson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Villarreal is looking to escape.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
I looks like Madson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Villarreal is squirming around, avoiding Madson's attempts to control the action.

Brick Madson has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Villarreal tries to keep at a distance but Madson has taken the fight into the clinch.
Madson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Villarreal just stands there and leans against the cage.

Madson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Villarreal, up you get!

Madson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Madson stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Villarreal to get to his feet.

Madson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Madson rushes Villarreal and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Villarreal tries to break free but Madson pushes him back against the cage.

Madson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Madson jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Villarreal knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Madson on the ground.

Madson is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Madson throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Villarreal because Madson loaded up on that one.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Villarreal is squirming around, avoiding Madson's attempts to control the action.
Villarreal avoids a series of strikes thrown by Madson.

Madson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Villarreal can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Brick Madson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Madson misses with a takedown attempt - Villarreal sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jon Villarreal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brick Madson.
Madson lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Madson dives in and grabs Villarreal's left leg, looking for a takedown. Villarreal pushes down on Madson's head and hops out.

Madson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Villarreal as he avoids it easily.

Madson tries to land knees in the clinch but Villarreal avoids the damage to the body.

Madson gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Madson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
A big right from Villarreal misses.

Madson darts in and clinches Villarreal up against the cage.

Madson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Villarreal wants to clinch but Madson slips to the side

and Madson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Madson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Villarreal does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Madson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Villarreal knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Madson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Villarreal is just riding it out for now. Madson eventually gives up the hold.
Madson is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Villarreal reverses the position - he's now on top in Madson's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brick Madson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Madson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
