PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Logan Himes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kelly has chosen Waylander-Born to Fight as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Logan Himes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Richard Kelly!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Himes takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Himes walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Kelly takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Kelly scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Kelly should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Kelly displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Kelly connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Himes momentarily.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Himes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Himes not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kelly trying to hold on to Himes's head to control him but Himes postures up.

Himes is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kelly defends it well.
It looks like Himes is going to stand back up.
Himes throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kelly tries to kick Himes off but Himes keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kelly wants to control but Himes is keeping busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kelly tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kelly closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Himes walks into a straight right hand from Kelly.
Kelly throws a good cross that connects.
Himes misses with an uppercut
enabling Kelly to counter with a crisp jab.
Himes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Himes is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Himes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kelly as he avoids it easily.
Kelly goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Himes takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Kelly moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Kelly lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Kelly misses with a jab, cross combination.
Himes looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Kelly jabs at Himes's body.
Himes moves in looking to clinch but Kelly pushes him off.
Himes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kelly's waist but Kelly gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Himes off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Logan Himes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kelly lands a glancing blow to the side of Himes's head.
Himes fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Himes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Himes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kelly wants to get back to full guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Himes lands a nice short elbow.
Himes working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Himes stops Kelly from getting back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kelly is trying to control but can't.
Kelly is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Himes scores with a couple of nice shots.
Kelly wants to control but Himes is keeping busy.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Kelly wants to get back to full guard.
Himes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Kelly lands with a nice combination. Himes backs away looking to recover.
Richard Kelly is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Himes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Himes takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Himes clinches up against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Himes jumps guard.
Kelly wants to control from the top but Himes keeps moving.
Himes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Himes is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Himes wants to sweep but no luck.

Himes working for a triangle but Kelly defends it easily.

Himes wants to sweep here but Kelly controlling him for the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Himes is on top in guard.
Himes connects with a couple of short punches.
Kelly is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kelly looking for a sweep. Not yet Kelly, not yet.
Himes tries to free his leg and advance position but Kelly is retaining full guard.

Kelly has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Himes off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Kelly lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Himes has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Kelly lands a head shot.
Kelly uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Himes looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Kelly lands a two punch combo.
Kelly scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Kelly catches Himes with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Kelly throws a good cross that connects.
Himes is looking to clinch.
Himes on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Himes scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Himes is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kelly moves into full guard.

Kelly is looking for a triangle but Himes pushes his legs off easily.

Kelly is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Himes connects with a couple of short punches.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kelly looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Himes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Kelly has his foot on Himes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Himes works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Logan Himes will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kelly wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Himes drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Himes throws a head kick but Kelly moves out of range.
Kelly uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Himes.
Kelly might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Himes fails with a takedown attempt.
Kelly keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Himes misses with a body shot
and Kelly connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Himes with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Kelly to score with a decent uppercut.
Himes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kelly swivels and escapes.
Logan Himes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Himes rushes Kelly and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Himes is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Kelly can't fight it off and eventually Himes manages to take the fight to the floor. Kelly looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Himes advances to half guard.
Kelly is trying to get back to full guard.
Himes lands with a punch from half guard.
Himes working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Himes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kelly manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Kelly looks to land a combination. Himes sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Kelly keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Himes pushes Kelly up against the cage in a clinch.
Himes throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Kellys head.

Himes has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Kelly clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Himes is working hard for the rear naked choke here.

Himes looking for the choke but no joy.
Himes avoiding Kelly 's attempts to control his hands.

Kelly showing good submission defense here.
Himes thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Himes is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Kelly is defending well though. Himes let's go of the attempt for now.

Himes controlling well, preventing Kelly from escaping the position.

Kelly is looking for a sweep. Himes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kelly has hold of Himes's hands but Himes slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kelly wants to control but Himes is keeping busy.

Himes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Himes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kelly is just riding it out for now. Himes eventually gives up the hold.
Himes passes to side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kelly tries to buck Himes off but Himes is having none of it.
Logan Himes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Himes is chipping away with strikes.
Himes landing strikes.
Kelly regains half guard.
Himes not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Himes drops an elbow to the side of Kelly's head.
Kelly trying to control here.
Kelly has hold of Himes's hands but Himes slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.


Kelly is rocked!


It looks like Richard Kelly has been cut.
Himes winds up and cracks Kelly with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Kelly is still in real trouble! Can Himes finish him?
Himes passes the guard and advances to mount!
Himes scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Kelly?


That has opened up Richard Kelly's cut even more.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Himes unloading with bombs!


The cut above Richard Kelly's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Richard Kelly's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
