Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Van Candy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
16 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raimo Tuomela!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tuomela fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Candy is out of range.
Candy throws a head kick but Tuomela moves out of range.
Tuomela throws a leg kick
and Candy counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Tuomela is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Candy closes this distance looking for a takedown but Tuomela circles away.
Candy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Candy throws a sloppy head kick
and Tuomela counters with a low kick, right behind Candy 's knee.
Candy drives through and clinches with Tuomela against the cage.
Candy is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Tuomela is keeping busy.
Candy fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Van Candy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A bit of stalling here from Candy.
Tuomela lands a nice shot to the body.
Tuomela lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Tuomela is working Candy over against the cage.
Candy goes for a takedown attempt but Tuomela pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Nice body punch from Tuomela.
Raimo Tuomela seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Candy is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Tuomela chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Candy on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Tuomela. Tuomela obviously looking to wear him down.
Tuomela moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Tuomela tries a head kick but it misses.
Candy throws a lazy head kick
and Tuomela counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Candy stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Tuomela.
Candy looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Tuomela lands a left and a right that send Candy crashing to the mat, dazed. Tuomela thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Candy is rocked!
Tuomela cracks Candy with a hook to the temple - Candy is on wobbly legs here! Tuomela swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Candy falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Tuomela wins by TKO!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Raimo Tuomela!
