PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Oji San (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eamon Dunphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Oji San!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Eamon Dunphy!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

San moves into range and clinches up with Dunphy.
Dunphy drops to a knee looking for a takedown but San gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Dunphy tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
San lands with a short head shot on the inside.
San scores with a shot to the side of Dunphy's head.
San throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Dunphys head.
Dunphy blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Dunphy has picked San up - he's going for a ride! Dunphy dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Dunphy works his way into full mount!
San knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dunphy on the ground.
San wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Dunphy.
San keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Dunphy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
San is squirming around, avoiding Dunphy's attempts to control the action.

Dunphy is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
San is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Dunphy goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now San is on top in guard.
Dunphy wants to sweep but no luck.
Dunphy manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. San manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dunphy drops back looking for a leg! San is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and San manages to kick Dunphy off! Dunphy jumps back into San's guard.
Dunphy passes San's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Dunphy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but San does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
San is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Dunphy lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
San on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if San tries to get out of the position.
San is refusing to be controlled, as Dunphy sits in half guard.
Dunphy throwing shots but San is blocking nicely.

Dunphy is trying to work for a kimura but San is defending well.

Dunphy is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and San defends it well.

Dunphy is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Dunphy takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
San tries to lock up and control but Dunphy gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Oji San dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Dunphy has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Oji San showed his dominance in that final round.
