PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mark Grizwold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shamil Magomedov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Shamil Magomedov was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Grizwold!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Shamil Magomedov!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grizwold has his takedown stuffed

and Magomedov counters with a nice double leg into side control. Grizwold won't be happy with that.
Magomedov wants to control but Grizwold is keeping him busy.
Grizwold is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Grizwold's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Grizwold manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Grizwold works his way to full guard. Good work.
Magomedov wanted to stand there but Grizwold had control of the position.
Grizwold keeping moving, preventing Magomedov from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Grizwold is on top in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grizwold has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Magomedov is proving hard to escape from.
Grizwold slips nicely into half guard.
Grizwold working the head and body with strikes.
Magomedov won't allow Grizwold to pass to mount.
Grizwold stops Magomedov from getting back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Grizwold throwing shots but Magomedov is blocking nicely.

Grizwold stands up from half guard.
Magomedov misses with the combination.
Nice uppercut there from Magomedov.
A punch combination from Magomedov misses.
Magomedov moves out of range of the strikes.
Grizwold misses with a takedown
enabling Magomedov to counter with a crisp jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Magomedov gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Grizwold tries to pull guard but Magomedov holds him up against the cage and eventually Grizwold drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Grizwold. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Grizwold jumps guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Grizwold throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Magomedov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Magomedov postures up.
Grizwold tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Magomedov with a nice head shot there.
Grizwold thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Magomedov throws and elbow that misses. Grizwold uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Magomedov's guard. Nice move by Grizwold!

Grizwold is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Magomedov is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Magomedov has escaped and now he's on top!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Grizwold trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Magomedov throws a sloppy strike and Grizwold has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Magomedov is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Grizwold!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mark Grizwold!
