PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cael Sanderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Rumble (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe Rumble told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cael Sanderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Rumble!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanderson misses the body punch

so Rumble counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Rumble passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Sanderson is looking for a sweep. Rumble is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sanderson tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Sanderson is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Rumble takes Sanderson's back, avoiding a couple of desperation strikes from the bottom.
Rumble controlling well, preventing Sanderson from escaping the position.
Sanderson trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sanderson controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
I would not like to be Sanderson right now.
Sanderson is in bad spot here.
Sanderson holding both Rumble 's hands and preventing any damage.
Sanderson is trying to break free.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sanderson is working hard here to advance position.
Rumble really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Sanderson.
I really don't envy Sanderson right now.

Rumble controls the position.
Sanderson tries to break free.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
I would not like to be Sanderson right now.
Sanderson can't escape the position.
Rumble is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Sanderson can't escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Rumble dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A punch combination from Rumble misses.
Sanderson takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Rumble lands a nice hook to Sanderson's body. Sanderson takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Rumble throws a combination. Sanderson tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


It looks like Cael Sanderson has been cut.
Sanderson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Rumble.
Sanderson drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Sanderson dodges the punch combination from Rumble.
Sanderson has a takedown stuffed.
Sanderson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rumble as he jumps to the side.
Rumble lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Rumble misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Sanderson shoots and misses
and Rumble connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cael Sanderson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rumble misses with the combination.

Sanderson ducks right into an uppercut from Rumble.
Rumble works over Sanderson's head and body with a nice combination.
Rumble connects with a right hand. Sanderson shakes it off.
Rumble circles away from the clinch attempt.
A jab lands there for Rumble.
Rumble lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Rumble lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


Cael Sanderson's cut is getting worse.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rumble uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Cael Sanderson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A jab lands there for Rumble.
Rumble fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Sanderson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Rumble throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Sanderson stumbling backwards into the cage! Sanderson bounces back off the cage towards Rumble, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Rumble lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Rumble celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Joe Rumble!
