PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ramon Hernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Desabafo - Marcelo D2. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jon Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ramon Hernandez!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hernandez darts in trying to clinch
and Silva counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Hernandez tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Silva cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Hernandez has his takedown stuffed
and Hernandez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Silva throws a nice looking combination but Hernandez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hernandez shoots and misses

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Hernandez is working an open guard so Silva takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Silva throws a head kick but Hernandez moves out of range.
Hernandez wants to clinch but Silva slips to the side
and Silva counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Hernandez closes the distance looking to clinch
and Silva counters with a good, hard body kick but Hernandez shrugs it off.

Silva instigates a clinch.

Hernandez is trying to stall.
Hernandez is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Silva is defending well for now.

Silva breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Silva counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Silva.
Silva slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Silva is in close to Hernandez's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Silva stands up from guard. Let's bang!

and Silva counters with a head kick. That will keep Hernandez thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Jon Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ramon Hernandez.

Silva closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Silva works to advance to full mount. Hernandez defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Silva seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hernandez for as long as he can get away with.
Silva breaks from Hernandez's wrist control and lands an elbow.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Hernandez tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Silva connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Silva drives through and clinches with Hernandez against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Hernandez has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Hernandez tries to pull guard but Silva won't allow it.
Hernandez throws a knee to the head but misses.
Hernandez tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Hernandez is trying to push Silva away but Silva has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Hernandez counters with a one-two to the body.
Hernandez steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Silva.
Jon Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hernandez won't be happy with that.

Silva stands up.

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Silva keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Silva's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Silva is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hernandez can do to turn this around?
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Hernandez creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Hernandez misses with a knee strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hernandez takes one on the chin but seems OK.

and Silva holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Hernandez swings wildly with an uppercut but Silva uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hernandez stalling in the clinch but Silva improves position.
Hernandez fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hernandez misses with a body punch.

Silva breaks from the clinch.

and Silva counters by clinching up.

Silva manages to break the clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A nice inside leg kick there by Silva. That's going to slow Hernandez down.
Silva circles away from the clinch attempt
and Silva counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

Silva shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hernandez's guard.
Silva controls from within his opponent's guard.
Hernandez wants to stand and escape but Silva is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva throws a strike but Hernandez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Silva has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hernandez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Silva works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Silva kicks Hernandez off and gets to his feet.
Silva changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hernandez tries to avoid it but Silva manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hernandez to the ground. Hernandez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Hernandez avoids a punch combination nicely.
Silva works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Jon Silva is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hernandez pinned against the cage. Hernandez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Ramon Hernandez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Silva lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Silva has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
