Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Carlos Williams! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Kevin Michaels! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Williams has his takedown stuffed and Michaels counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Williams misses with a takedown attempt enabling Michaels to counter with a crisp jab. Williams with a poor takedown and Michaels counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Williams. That's going to take a lot out of him. Michaels closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Michaels performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Williams tries to roll over but Michaels keeps him under control. Michaels wants to work for an arm triangle but Williams is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Williams is not content to let Michaels control the position. Williams is trying to get back to full guard. Williams trying to control but Michaels postures up.
Michaels is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Williams has managed to free his arm - good work. Michaels prevents Williams from improving his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Michaels slows the pace down in half guard. Michaels is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Williams is trying to get back to full guard. Michaels looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Williams is looking for a sweep. Michaels is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Michaels wants to control but Williams is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Williams wants to get back to full guard. Michaels is trying to control the action in half guard but Williams is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Williams looking for submissions off his back. Michaels is working for a kimura but Williams is defending it quite comfortably.
Williams wants to control but Michaels is keeping busy.
Michaels is trying to control. Williams wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Williams gets back to full guard.
Michaels stops Williams from standing up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Williams tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Michaels stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Williams swivels though and keeps the full guard. Michaels drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Michaels jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Williams throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Williams is breathing heavily. Michaels got a little sloppy there for a moment and Williams has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Michaels has managed to get both his arms back between Williams's legs - danger averted. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Michaels's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Williams looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Michaels thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Williams will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Michaels stopping the sweep attempt from Williams. Williams throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Williams is looking for a triangle but Michaels pushes his legs off easily.
Michaels trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom. Williams can't keep his opponent in guard - Michaels advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Michaels maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Williams could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Michaels has cracked it and Williams is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Michaels!
