Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rob Mendez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dappa Saluamba! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Saluamba pushes Mendez up against the cage in a clinch. Saluamba pulls guard. Mendez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mendez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Saluamba is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Saluamba keeping moving, preventing Mendez from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mendez won't allow Saluamba to sweep him here. Saluamba manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Saluamba wants to clinch. Saluamba gets a clinch. Mendez wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Saluamba has him pressed against the cage. Mendez can't break the clinch.
Saluamba is trying to push Mendez away but Mendez has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
That's one minute gone in the round. Saluamba stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Mendez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Mendez fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Saluamba breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mendez wants to clinch up but Saluamba keeps it at a distance. Mendez moves into the clinch. Mendez pulls Saluamba into guard.
Saluamba stays in close to Mendez's body and controls the position. Saluamba trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mendez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Saluamba defends well. Mendez trying to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Saluamba throws a sloppy strike and Mendez has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Saluamba is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Mendez!
