PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Rios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tadamasa Yamada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rios comes into the arena with Their Law blaring out of the sound system. Tadamasa Yamada has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Tyson Rios's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tyson Rios!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tadamasa Yamada!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rios tries to clinch up.
Rios wants to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Rios. No joy for Yamada on that attempt.

Rios drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Rios stands up and beckons Yamada to his feet.

Rios bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Yamada is trying to improve his position.
Yamada holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Yamada tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Rios in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Rios is looking to control Yamada's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rios avoid being mounted?

Yamada seems to be looking for submissions.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Yamada is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Rios knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Yamada on the ground.
Yamada connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Rios could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Yamada has hold of Rios's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rios manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Rios is trying to escape the mount.
Rios wants to control but Yamada is having none of it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rios tries to buck Yamada off but he can't manage it.
Yamada controlling the position easily from mount.
Yamada avoids the attempt from Rios to control.
Yamada fails to take his opponent's back.
Rios tries to lock up and control but Yamada gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Rios tries to hold on but Yamada postures up.
Rios is looking to get to half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Rios wants to use the ropes to get back to his feet here.
Yamada looking to control and managing it successfully.
Yamada wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.

Yamada looking for a guillotine from mount but Rios is having none of it.
Rios's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Yamada controlling the pace for now.
Yamada trying to control but Rios is having none of it.
Yamada takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
What can Rios do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Rios is trying to stand back up.

Yamada is looking to control Rios but Rios is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Yamada doesn't have the hooks in and Rios manages to turn into his guard.
Yamada keeping full guard, as Rios tries to pass.

Yamada throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Rios escapes and throws Yamada's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Yamada is trying to work for a sweep but Rios has mounted him!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Yamada regains half guard.

Rios is looking for a kimura here.
Yamada regains full guard. Nicely done.
Yamada looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Rios stopping the sweep attempt from Yamada.
Yamada not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Yamada is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Rios wanted to stand there but Yamada had control of the position.
Yamada is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Rios would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Rios working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Rios pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Yamada is keeping the position for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Yamada is working an open guard so Rios takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Yamada gets caught flat footed, as Rios shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tyson Rios will probably get the nod.
That's time! Rios's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Rios thows a body kick. Yamada tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Rios wants to clinch up but Yamada keeps it at a distance.
Rios throws a series of punches but Yamada moves out of range.
Tyson Rios seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rios throws a head kick that Yamada semi-blocks.

Yamada has managed to clinch.
Yamada missing with knees to the body.
Yamada tries for a takedown. No joy.
Rios tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Yamada drops down looking for an ankle pick but Rios pulls his leg out and moves away.
Rios throws a series of punches but Yamada moves out of range.
Rios shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Yamada counters with a nice body kick.

Yamada closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Yamada thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Yamada is breathing heavily.
Yamada working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rios is not content to let Yamada control the position.

Yamada is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rios knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Yamada slows the pace down.
Yamada is working Rios over with some ground and pound from side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rios is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Yamada is controlling him well.
Yamada happy to just control the position for now.
Rios gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Yamada content just to control the position here.
Rios is in all sorts of trouble here.
Yamada looking to control and managing it successfully.

Let's hope that Yamada has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Rios is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Yamada locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Rios is forced to tap!
