11 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Max Michaels! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bastian Rolfes! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Jorge Garcia and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rolfes shoots and misses and Michaels counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Michaels shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Michaels thows a big elbow that misses. Rolfes keeping moving, preventing Michaels from controlling successfully. Michaels postures up.
Rolfes is pulling down on Michaels's head. It's preventing any offense from Michaels, at least for the moment. Michaels trying to control but Rolfes is working from the bottom. Michaels has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Max Michaels. Rolfes avoids the head kick by Michaels.

Rolfes is looking to control Michaels's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rolfes avoid being mounted? Michaels seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Rolfes wants to control but Michaels is keeping busy and won't allow it. Rolfes blocking the ground and pound attempt from Michaels. Michaels lands with a light punch inside. Rolfes jumps guard but Michaels stands there with Rolfes around his waist. Rolfes gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Michaels for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Michaels walks away with a smile on his face. Rolfes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Rolfes showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Michaels.
Rolfes tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Rolfes gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Michaels counters with a left and a right that stings Rolfes. Max Michaels has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bastian Rolfes. Michaels looks to land a combination but Rolfes avoids it well. Rolfes has his takedown stuffed and Michaels counters by clinching up. Max Michaels has scored more points in the clinch so far. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Michaels takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Max Michaels. Michaels throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Rolfes closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Rolfes tries to advance to mount but can't. Michaels tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rolfes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Rolfes misses with a takedown attempt and Michaels counters with a one-two to the body. Max Michaels has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bastian Rolfes. Michaels closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The ground and pound from Michaels seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Michaels looks up at the clock and then as Rolfes takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Michaels smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Rolfes is staying active underneath Michaels, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Rolfes tries to get to full guard but Michaels has control of the leg. Michaels lands strikes from half guard. Michaels trying to control from Rolfes's half guard. Rolfes has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Michaels won't allow Rolfes to sweep him here. Rolfes controls Michaels momentarily but Michaels frees himself. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Michaels accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Michaels cracks Rolfes with a solid left hand. Rolfes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Michaels postures up in Rolfes's guard and throws a big left but Rolfes blocks it. Michaels in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Michaels is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rolfes can do to turn this around? Rolfes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Michaels works a leg free and moves into half guard. Michaels working Rolfes over with strikes. Rolfes is wobbling all over the place through exhaustion. Will he make it to the final bell? Nice strikes from Michaels there.
