PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and King Kong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doe comes to the cage accompanied by whatsername, and does she remember my name?. Kong has chosen Faint as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Doe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, King Kong!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kong doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Doe counter with a right hand.
A chopping leg kick lands by Doe.
Doe throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Kong lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Kong misses with a takedown
and Doe counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Kong thinking.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Doe scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Kong with a lazy takedown attempt
and Doe counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Jon Doe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of King Kong.
Kong looks gassed!

Doe shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Doe was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Doe seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kong for as long as he can get away with.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We're going to have a standup here because Jon Doe wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Kong shoots and misses
and Doe counters with a body kick that stops Kong in his tracks momentarily.
Doe lands with a nice body punch.
Kong darts in trying to clinch
and Doe connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Doe thuds a left hand into Kong's body.
Kong tries for a takedown but Doe circles away easily
and Doe counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Doe throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Kong takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nice straight punches there by Doe. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Doe.
Kong on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Doe throws a sloppy head kick and Kong moves out of range easily.
Doe lands with a shot to the body.
Doe connects with a body shot.
Doe connects with a body shot that sends Kong's belly button to the back.
Doe scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Doe throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Doe bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Doe throws a leg kick which misses Kong's front leg but catches the back leg as Kong tries to avoid it.
Doe scores with a jab to the body.

Doe fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kong, pushing him back against the cage.
Doe stops a takedown attempt from Kong.

Doe escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kong takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Kong takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Doe lands a nice hook to Kong's body. Kong takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
A left and a right from Doe both land. Nice combination.
Doe lands a jab to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Doe dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Kong. That did some damage!

Doe shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Doe controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kong is in all sorts of trouble here.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Doe prevents Kong from getting the reversal.
Kong is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Doe looking to control and managing it successfully.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Doe dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Kong misses with a takedown attempt
and Doe connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kong has his takedown stuffed
and Doe counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Doe shoots in and bounces Kong off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Doe controls from within his opponent's guard.
Doe has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Doe pushes down on Kong's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Kong is breathing heavily.

Kong is trying desperately to land a takedown but Doe is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Kong.

and Doe counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kong won't be happy with that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

King Kong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Crunch! Doe slams his shin into Kong's torso.

Doe forces Kong back against the cage and clinches.

Kong doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Doe moves into the clinch.
Doe digs a right hand into Kong's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Kong's gas tank.
Kong is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kong has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Doe avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Doe's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Kong doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Doe makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Kong takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Doe scores with a sloppy right hand. Kong should have avoided that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Doe dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Doe connects with a body shot.
Doe scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
A nice leg kick lands there from Doe.
Doe is looking to wear down Kong with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Doe lands with a thumping leg kick.

Doe drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Kong looking for a guillotine here but Doe defends easily.

Doe stands up and waves to Kong to follow him.

Kong tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Doe just stands there and leans against the cage.
Kong takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kong tries for a takedown but Doe manages to get underhooks.
Kong changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Doe fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Doe has managed to clinch.
Kong has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Doe is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Doe lands a left hand that snaps the head of Kong backwards.

Doe escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Doe lands a nice shot that snaps Kong's head back.
Doe throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kong stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Doe digs a good body shot into Kong's ribs.
A decent looking cross lands there for Doe.
Doe lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Kong at a distance.
Doe punishes Kong's body with a nice straight punch.

Kong ducks right into an uppercut from Doe.
Doe ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jon Doe is winning the standup battle so far.

Doe feints and then cracks Kong's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kong down.
Doe lands with a nice body kick.

Doe bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Doe happy to just control the position for now.
King Kong has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Doe tries to advance to mount but can't.
Kong is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Jon Doe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Doe is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Kong is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Doe is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Kong is working to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Doe trying to control but Kong is having none of it.
Doe controlling the pace for now.
Doe tries to control but Kong wriggling away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Doe showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Doe has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
